MummyTheQueenOfDarkness · 21/10/2008 11:43

i am now gonna waltz around the bedrooms with henry !!!! he is dressed in a red suit and has a cheeky smile on his face

sparklesandnowinefor3days · 21/10/2008 14:38

today i be wearing black trousers, black shoes (matching ones ) and a red tee (although i probably shouldn't as it clashes with my hair)

Waltzywotzy · 21/10/2008 15:06

Wow sparkles just seen the 37 week pic, you are looking healthy and gorgeous.

I must go to other thread to catch up and see olive too.

Today I am very scruffy - I must go and sort myself out...I have to see the teacher after school.

Tn0g · 21/10/2008 17:00

Craggyy - I'm hoping that things take an upturn for you relationship wise.

As Waltzy posted, anything to do with our children and how they are developing is a concern but at least you're seeing the very people who can help.

It'll all be ok in the end.

Sparkles - tell that child to get a move on.

I have parents eve on thursday for DS1 and DD and i'm a little worried about it i think DD is doing very well in terms of academic ability (i think she is 'bottom' group for most things) but she is really happy at school - what do i do? I hate the way the fecking system makes you feel inadequate if they aren't good in maths or english she is fantasic in other areas but they never seem to concentrate on these....

sparklesandnowinefor3days · 21/10/2008 17:14

that should read isn't doing very well

Tn0g · 21/10/2008 17:51

Like you, S, I think at six the most important thing is that she's happy at school.

I mean at six they're practically still babies, she's got a long way to go and needs to develop in her own little confident happy way.

I understand what you mean about the system and there isn't a whole lot you can do about that, unless you were to opt out completely or look for a private school that you feel reflects your ethos on child-development.

I totally understand, believe me

weary

Tn0g · 21/10/2008 18:05

I think here in Ireland the system is a little different to yours, perhaps more european.

G started school aged 5, but it's not uncommon for children to start at six.

No pressure to learn much for the first two years of school much more about socialising and developing core skills.

G is now in fifth class, national/primary but if we were in England he'd be at secondary school.

I think there is a lot more repetetion and a slower pace of teaching/learning and no sats.

A solid grounding in Maths, English and Irish would be the main focus.

I'm not trying to imply the Irish system is better but it is perhaps a little less pressured, yet still regarded as very good with students attaining a good, solid education.

literacy levels are much higher in comparison to the UK.

Children of your dd's age would still be learning very much through play.

Waltzywotzy · 21/10/2008 18:12

dd2 - Pleasure to have in the class a delight, gives 100 per cent. I left before we got into too much depth on maths and English, took all of 6 mins. In > out > home.

Thankfully I had a grown up chair to sit on and not one of those tiny child toy chairs that make you feel like an overgrown hefalump with a fat arse looking up at the teacher!

I did change to autumal browns with smart Wallis trousers and wore my glasses too. Tecaher looked lovely in flora shirt - didn't see her legs as she was sitting, but I expect boots and trousers too so we could match.

Sparkles we all worry don't we? dd1 is my worry and she tries so hard, its so difficult to see them struggle. She sets herself such high targets I wish she would just not stress about it all so much. I took the MN poll about homework - far too much. I also am so pleased that here they are scrapping sats for 14-year-olds.

Waltzywotzy · 21/10/2008 18:38

I realise that probably sounded quite knobish!
But I am so proud that dd2 is so rounded in this mad outfit of a house.

Tn0g · 21/10/2008 20:04

lolo

yeah, I read that and thought,

That Wotz, she's a right knobby old bag.

Good to hear she's doing so well.

Congrats to dd2!

G is like a wheelbarrow.
