What do you do to keep yourself looking as youthful as you are able to?

Just interested in this as I approach 50. I take collagen and a multi vit and am looking at my skincare.

wonder what else people do that I can take on too. I know I’m never going to look 20
again but if I can look as good as possible or for my age then I might be willing to
try it.

Stay the same size as I was in my early 20s.

Have small tits.

Have a younger DH.

Combination of these 3 means I’m seldom mistaken for older than I am.

Haha, I was going to say Im the same size as I was when I was in my 20's.
Also small tit's and toyboy ✔️
Id never thought this made me more youthful, but maybe it does! Ill take the wins where I can!

Wear my hair in bunches and carry a skipping rope.

TroysMammy · Today 08:12

I take my glasses off when I look in the mirror and have developed a don't care about what people think attitude. I occasionally use anti wrinkle cream, I don't wash my face when having a shower and I don't aim for a suntan.

Sun every day but avoid strong sun
Low carbs
Daily walking
Get as much sleep as possible
No facial routine (spf in summer)
The usual suspects, there's no magic pill

That said, the way you carry yourself/feel inside probably contributes more than actual looks. And the less you worry how you look the better you feel!

My mum gave me one piece of makeup advice ever, when I was 14 or 15. Moisturiser with good UVA and UVB protection from hairline to ears to collarbones, 365 days a year. I've probably only skipped it as often as I've skipped tooth brushing. Hat on when out gardening.

NoHangoversToday · Today 08:16

I'm 52. I wear sunscreen religiously (I have family who live in Australia who are a little lax- even with all the publicity around it there and you certainly can tell. ). My diet is now wholly based around fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains. I drink a load of green tea. I drastically cut my alcohol intake. People consistently say I look about 10 years younger, but I have been falling down with things like hair care and weight management so that's next.

Namechanged4today · Today 08:18

HRT. At 63 I easily look 10 years younger than my same-age friends not on it. Add in bone density protection, cardiac benefits, hair, skin, and mental benefits. I also moisturise faithfully. And I am a joyful person with a lot of gratitude for what’s good in my life. I think that helps.

I definitely need to lose some weight - just find it so difficult at the moment. I drink lots of water too. Can def try strength training and more fruit and veg.

All good.

I’m mainly interested in keeping my body strong & healthy for as long as possible, which means strength training, water & healthy eating rather than injecting stuff.

🤣 forgot the boobs and younger DH 👍🏻

Nothing, I care about being healthy, not about being “youthful”.

I find this distaste for aging quite baffling.

OneoftheWeddingPeople · Today 08:24

Stay current. Listen to new music. Do new things. Keep wardrobe current. It’s a state of mind.

A friend of my parents is mid 70s and she is so cool. Don’t think of her as old. Then there are middle aged boring types in their 40s living small lives in cardigans sitting on the sofa.

Gaitskilling · Today 08:24

Honestly, ageing is a privilege. I’m enjoying it.

wheredidtheteago · Today 08:25

Diet, sleep, water are the ‘glow from within’ secrets. Botox, light makeup/good skincare and clothes confidence are the outside secret

Nitgel · Today 08:27

Good hairdresser and exercise. Definitely no crap in my face like botox.

Accept the changes aging brings. I don't want to look youthful i want to look like me whatever thst looks like as I get older.

Waitingfordoggo · Today 08:29

I look older than I am because I smoked and drank so much as a younger woman, and didn’t always use SPF. I’m also slim and always have been, and that can make a face age a bit faster I think.

I don’t try to look young, because I’m not young. But I feel great thanks to strength training and yoga, also avoiding alcohol and crap food. Lots of friends my age are starting to complain about feeling lethargic and having aches and pains, but I feel great.

Meadowfinch · Today 08:29

The main things I think show age are posture, obesity, easy of movement and complexion so I :

Run 2 x 5k a week (general fitness & weight control)
Practice karate ( flexibility, ease of movement)
Plenty of sleep (complexion & energy levels)
No smoking or vaping and almost no alcohol (complexion & weight control)
Avoid stress (general health)
Good hydration
Good diet with lots of fruit & veg, few UPFs (general health)
Good daily skin care (complexion)
Good grooming - brows, nails, depilation
Clothes - properly fitting bra, well cut clothes, comfortable supportive shoes

For skin care, I use a mild supermarket cleanser, a very gentle toner and a good quality moisturiser with UV protection.

It doesn't need to be expensive. Just consistent.

something2say · Today 08:30

We do those Tai Ci movements every morning.
I have added to them so I'm doing about ten movements.
I caught sight of myself in leggings and I have a great shape atm.

Try that.

Also don't do botox, it is so obvious and always goes wrong eventually.

DustyMaiden · Today 08:32

@HappiestSleeping But how’s your eyesight?

SpainToday · Today 08:33

Resistance/weight training and a touch of face self tanner

NoNonsense79 · Today 08:34

Nowt. I’m not fussed about looking young. But I am bothered about being healthy so I aim to stay active and eat well.

Pachycephalosaurus · Today 08:34

Looking young is not just about your skin is it. It's also your vitality. Do you spring off the floor or do you creak your way up using your hands to help? Do you have lots of energy and enthusiasm or do you feel like you are dragging your body through the day? I suggest that focusing on these will have a much greater impact than slightly smoother skin. I'd look at a nutritious diet, strength and flexibility, and weight if applicable.

catabhaile · Today 08:36

Unless you count exercise and diet, zero. I'm 62, I just let it all occur as it does naturally. Sure, there are days I look in the mirror and think, what the fuck. But mostly I'm too busy having a good life to care.

HarpieDuJour · Today 08:44

The only way to prevent ageing is death. I'm fine with getting older and I dont care if I look like I've lived a full life, because I have. There is no joy for me in trying to look a particular way(yound), or to disguise a particular thing about myself (my age). So I save all that effort for things that matter to me, like really good sex and growing cauliflowers in every available colour (four so far!).

TheBlueIsAlright · Today 08:46

I am not interesting in looking young but am interested in being full of life as many people my age are becoming more and more dull. I eat well, exercise a lot, go out dancing, and do lots of new things have loads of friends through lots of different activities. This last year I went skiing for the first time, went to two new festivals, took up pottery, and tennis. I went camping 3 times with difficult groups of friends to new locations, tried paddleboarding, and orienteering. I go to lots of gigs of small and big bands and try new recipes every week.
I am mid 50s and think what is really aging people older than me are those that lead little lives. Same job, routines, similar holidays for years on end. No new anything.
I do have some constants (old friends from school, uni and when kids were little), marriage and job in the same field.

I use this, this is a link to a free trial and you get some other nice freebies. Definitely worth a try. I think it's supposed to be one of the only things that definitely does work.

I also do a morning class every day just to keep myself nice and stretched. I do Les Mills Body Balance via their app. Love it. Starts the day off well.
