Mutti tomatoes

I’ve always bought cheap tinned tomatoes, switched to Mutti and I can’t believe the difference! Don’t need to add half the seasoning to my spag Bol not to make it not taste so acidic.

If you’ve not tried them, make the switch!

Yes, they are the best. My child eats them with a spoon from the jar!!

Jollygollygosh · 21/10/2026 20:26

I have a cupboard full as I buy them on offer.

Burningbud1981 · 21/10/2026 20:28

Good chopped tomatoes make all the difference. Do not buy Tesco Growers Harvest ones absolutely disgusting. Cheap for a reason lol

I've used Mutti tomatoes & think they are good but for a fry up I find Sainsbury's green label tins much nicer.

AccidentalPrawnYouFool · 21/10/2026 20:41

we usually get Napolina, are cirio or mutti better?

canklesmctacotits · 21/10/2026 20:44

Mutti tinned cherry tomatoes are excellent.

Generally, though, if you tomato-based sauce is too acidic, add a knob of butter.

twilighteaser · 21/10/2026 20:50

Use Mutti (or Cirio) Plum tomatoes instead of chopped & your dishes will taste even better. BTW Napolina brand does't exist in Italy!

NoKindofAtmosphere · 21/10/2026 20:51

The mutti tomato puree is delicious. Me and my DD sook it straight from the tube 🤣

FairViewRosie25 · 21/10/2026 21:00

I love Mutti they are generally on offer somewhere

goingtotown · 21/10/2026 21:27

Mutti chopped tomatoes £1.20 Sainsbury’s Nectar price.

Minasama · 21/10/2026 21:29

Oh yes, they are really good aren’t they?

runnerducky · 21/10/2026 21:29

It ruins you for cheap tinned tomatoes! Cirrio too. I just accept I have had to triple my tomato budget. Their pizza sauce is lovely too, and their pasta sauces.

FrostyMorn · 21/10/2026 22:04

Mutti ketchup is also delicious!

(Also love the design on their tomato can - one has become a pen pot.)

It’s not surprising, cheap tinned tomatoes can contain around 40% water whereas brands like Mutti only have about 2% in. You only have to read the label on the tin to see the contents of a Mutti can are superior to most cheaper brands, you get what you pay for.

Wow how silly I would never think to look at something like that !!

Op I bloody love mutti

Ohthatsabitshit · 21/10/2026 22:09

Just buy fresh tomatoes. They’re available all year round and cheaper.

GentleSheep · 21/10/2026 22:11

I prefer Cirio as Mutti are very finely chopped and I prefer them chunkier. My sense of taste's not what it was since Covid so haven't noticed a difference on that front.

DelilahBucket · 21/10/2026 22:12

I find the Ocado ones are a happy medium and far better than the cheap ones. Can't believe I used to think chopped tomatoes were chopped tomatoes. Dried pasta is the same, the cheap stuff is such a low protein content it's no wonder it isn't fulfilling. I do believe you get what you pay for with food and we tend to buy more expensive products but then eat less.

TheChosenTwo · 21/10/2026 22:13

I’ve been banging on about these for a long time to my sister, we get them on Amazon when they’re on offer and it works out about £1 a tin, usually have 12 in the cupboard.
i don’t really cook but I do eat, dh does the cooking, they are really good quality and you really and truly can taste the difference.
I gave some to my sister and she tried them out and is a recent convert, begrudgingly!

RedRiverShore6 · 21/10/2026 22:17

I bought some Mutti ones and DH didn't like them, I think they were too finely chopped, I don't think you can get just chopped so we have the Cirio ones instead.

TY78910 · 21/10/2026 22:31

It’s like with anything - spend more on ingredients and you get a nicer meal. A lot of the time people think it’s their cooking - it’s not. A lot of fruit and veg in supermarkets is completely tasteless, same with tinned produce.

mumumental · 21/10/2026 23:39

I prefer whole tomatoes in tins over chopped. The nicest ones, but wasted in a bolognese, are the tinned cherry tomatoes. Amazing in puttanesca.

Just buy fresh tomatoes. They’re available all year round and cheaper.

Most of the year, they're imported and flavourless and, by the time you've peeled, de-seeded and reduced them down, they're definitely not cheaper.

ProudWomanXX · 22/10/2026 00:22

I grow lots of my own organic, heritage tomato varieties, and cook them, pressure can or freeze, in a manner similar to what Mutti offer.

Mutti are the ONLY tinned tomatoes I'd ever buy, to use instead of my own preserved ones.

fataroundthemiddle · 22/10/2026 09:44

Yep, Mutti and Cirio are Italian makes, Napolina is only an Italian sounding name.
Read the labels well, most of the cheaper stuff comes from China

Me too! Looks lovely in my kitchen.
