If you are under 65 do you know who these people are?

They were significant figures in their day, but now?
Bernard Levin
Katherine Whitehorn
Bernard Braden
Nemone Lethbridge
Jill Tweedie
Robin Day.

{They are in no particular order BTW}

Gonksmum · 17/10/2026 21:40

58 - heard of the 2 Bernards and Robin Day

Gengha · 17/10/2026 21:41

I’m 53, heard of Bernard Braden and Robin Day

RaggedRocks · 17/10/2026 21:43

Robin Day, "lady at the back in the checked dress, yes you, what did want to ask the Prime Minister".

MaggotDonkey · 17/10/2026 21:52

I'm 36 and don't know any of them, it's not even an "oh yeah, I have heard of them" when I google.

CandidLurker · 17/10/2026 22:07

Katherine Whitehorn and Jill Tweedie. Think they had columns in the Guardian or the Observer.

frenchfancy81 · 17/10/2026 22:08

I'm 45 and haven't heard of any!

RaraRachael · 17/10/2026 22:09

I've only heard of Robin Day

Madcats · 17/10/2026 22:24

61 and I have heard of two (Bernard L and Robin D). I rarely read the Guardian (used to favour The Independent back when it was a broadsheet) so the journalists passed me by. I even looked up wiki in case I’d simply forgotten their names -nope.

I’d be better with R4 journalists and presenters, I suspect.

Supermam · 18/10/2026 18:09

I’m 61. Know Robin Day. Aware of Bernard Levin; vaguely heard of Jill Tweedie. Don’t know the others.

JJWT · 18/10/2026 18:15
  1. Robin Day, yes. None of the others.
Lollipop81 · 18/10/2026 18:18

I’m 45 and I’ve never heard of any of them

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 18/10/2026 18:19

This.

Koriko · 18/10/2026 18:32

Never heard of them. Fab names though!

TheLastSilverSaint · 18/10/2026 18:34

I’m 50 and I’ve heard of all of them, but mainly because I grew up with a massive interest in media and current affairs. Some of them were still writing newspaper columns when I was a kid. But there’s really no reason why people should have heard of them. I suspect most 65+ people haven’t heard of most of them either.

There’s no way my MIL will have heard of any of them bar Robin Day (and possibly Bernard Braden?) because she wasn’t someone who was reading broadsheet papers and watching the kinds of TV programmes those people appeared on in their heyday. My mum will know Day, Braden, Levin from TV and possibly Whitehorn and Tweedie from columns in the Guardian if she remembers them.

Skeeterinamber · 18/10/2026 18:45

No. I couldn’t even hazard a guess.

Sueandthegoldfish · 18/10/2026 19:10

65 and I’ve heard of all of them.

Solitudinemfaciuntpacemappellant · 18/10/2026 20:01

I know Robin Day, Katherine Whitehorn, Jill Tweedie and Bernard Levin. But I am in a similar line of work.

Mackerelfillets · 18/10/2026 20:19

I'm 57 and only heard of Robin Day.

Ketzele · 18/10/2026 20:31

62 here, Ive heard of all of them except Nemone Lethbridge.

MrMurphysComeuppance · 18/10/2026 20:45

Bernard Levin - know the name and I can vaguely recall his face but can't think what he's known for.

Katherine Whitehorn - never heard of her.

Bernard Braden - know the name, can't think why though.

Nemone Lethbridge - nope.

Jill Tweedie - nope.

Robin Day - yes.

ThatLilacTiger · 18/10/2026 20:49
