If you are under 65 do you know who these people are?

They were significant figures in their day, but now?
Bernard Levin
Katherine Whitehorn
Bernard Braden
Nemone Lethbridge
Jill Tweedie
Robin Day.

{They are in no particular order BTW}

I'm 64 I've heard of three of them.

ENesbit · 17/10/2026 18:52

62, and familiar with all of them ( I come from a family of Observer readers).

Lulu1919 · 17/10/2026 18:54

Only Robin Day - im
57

Freedom29 · 17/10/2026 18:54

Jill Tweedie’s Letters from a Faint-Hearted Feminist is still very funny and worth reading.

PrettyLittleRose · 17/10/2026 18:59

Are you going to come back to the thread @CorporalJohn and tell us why you're asking.......?

Echobelly · 17/10/2026 19:05

I'm 48, know Bernard Levin and Robin Day. Was vaguely aware of them on TV and in the papers as a kid.

Hatty65 · 17/10/2026 19:10

Yes. But they were predominantly journalists and/or broadcasters on current affairs. They were known at the time, but probably mostly to a certain demographic.

It's a little like asking today's crowd if they know

Ian Hislop
Polly Toynbee
Giles Coren
Reeta Chakrabati
Andrew Neil

A lot of people will not know them in another 50 years time, which is when most of the people you are talking about were best known.

DBSFstupid · 17/10/2026 19:28

Loved Jill Tweedie - a great journalist and a beautiful writer. Her autobiography 'Eating children' was so vivid and heartbreaking.

Additup · 17/10/2026 19:29

I've heard of them all apart from Nemone Lethbridge

TheeNotoriousPIG · 17/10/2026 19:47

No, but then again, I am not very good at remembering the names of famous people (unless they are singers who use their given name). I am in my thirties.

BCBird · 17/10/2026 19:57

Robin Dayb is the only one I recognise.

BertieBotts · 17/10/2026 19:58

No idea. But I am never any good at recognising celebrities.

FrankieNeverRelax · 17/10/2026 19:59

Nope!

VeryQuaintIrene · 17/10/2026 19:59

I know who all of them were except Nemone Lethbridge, of whom I have never even heard.

StellaOlivetti · 17/10/2026 20:01

I think Jill Tweedie wrote Letters from a Faint Hearted Feminist, which was seriously funny.
Ive heard of Bernard Levin, Katharine Whitehorn and Robin Day but not the others.

FillerTrackOnTheAlbumOfLife · 17/10/2026 20:03

I know of Bernard Levin, Jill Tweedie and Robin Day. I'm in my early 50s.

38, not heard of any of these!

Freshrain · 17/10/2026 21:00

Robin Day is the only one I could say who they were.

A couple of the others sound vaguely familiar.

Why ?
I mean, why those 6 people in particular?

In my 50s, only Robin Day. He wore a bow-tie and glasses.

ThePineappleSeahorse · 17/10/2026 21:37

I know Nemone Lethbridge. She faced a huge amount of prejudice in Law because she was a woman, married a convinced murderer who later wrote for television sometimes alongside her, she’s campaigned for him to be pardoned and she often represented the Kray twins in court.

I know Robin Day was a presenter and journalist.

Bernard Levin was a journalist. Beyond that I’m not sure about the others though their names are familiar other than Braden.

Goldengirl123 · 17/10/2026 21:38

I’m over 65 but used to work for Bernard Bradon’s agent and would speak to him several times a week
