I dont know if I would be comfortable saying what you have said above, even if I broadly agree. Jason Arday case really shook me, I believed (and still believe now) he was a fraud etc etc but I was upset reading that he killed himself. I was surprised myself by my reaction but it was just sad. Death is just so final.

Yes because ‘be kind’ has been firmly installed in you (I get it, none of us are immune).

But I wish we, as women, showed the same level of brazen self interest (if you can call it that) as men do, without the resulting embarrassed.

This man isn’t at all embarrassed that he’s throwing £££ at stopping the press reporting his sordid (entirely voluntary) behaviour, in fact he probably feels nothing but outrage that he doesn’t get to abuse people with impunity. He doesn’t care if his victims self harm due to his abuse, in fact their deaths and inability to testify would probably suit him nicely.

Has anyone else cleared the house of DW books? My kids love them and despite my best efforts they kept appearing in the house.
I’ve just binned them! Finally! Not sure what took me so long.

Never had them in the first place. In addition to be a creep, he’s a fucking terrible writer and his books are atrocious.

Fair enough, however, we are talking allegations here, not conviction.

I find sex offenders as disguising as the next person but, as I said before, the press hounding people relentlessly is awful. There are plenty of examples when people actually did kill themselves over it.

Edited to add: I have no ide why some people on here connecting injunction to press with fair trial. There is zero connection. I also very much doubt this injunction would work if the person is found guilty - unless court orders this specifically, which I doubt it would.

Edited

You in 1945 probably: it’s not fair to judge these leaders of the Nazi party, they haven’t even been on trial for war crimes yet, much less convicted.

Since when being kind became an insult? Yes, I feel sorry for JA even if he was a wanker. And I'm against death sentence.

The press is equally awful to women, too - wasn't there a female presenter who killed herself?

In my opinion you are not comparing like with like. I would suggest looking at the case of Noel Clarke - who lost his libel case against The Guardian for publishing allegations made by women against him.

It was the Bafta award that made women come forward. These men would have been likely to continue to abuse other people if the media had not published the allegations of brave women.

MrDirtyBear · 29/10/2026 09:49

"Innocent until proven guilty but don't let young Tilly round the bounders flat!" springs to mind whenever I see the defense of high principles.

Which, if people really did believe in would survive even the airing of allegations.

Fortuity · 29/10/2026 09:49

localnotail · 28/10/2026 21:02

If I understand it right he was hospitalised already and this is nothing to do with him being found guilty or not guilty... this is simply to do with the press hounding him before the verdict. No one can take an injunction to stop having to go to court and stand trial, and if found guilty no one cam stop his victims from speaking up.

What verdict? If this is the person most people assume it is, he isn't on trial for anything, so there is no issue of him being found guilty.

We could save a fortune on the criminal justice system and replace it with trial by mumsnet because they 'can just tell'

We can’t tell. We can however confirm that the odds of multiple unrelated women gathering to make spurious accusations against a random celebrity, with little chance of any financial benefit or even interviews as their identities are usually never revealed, is tiny. A case for Occam’s razor.

My local Sainsbury’s has a little book stall and you donate a £1 a book. Normally the table is a third full but yesterday it was overflowing with children's books. Guess who the author was...

Or we just think many many women and girls saying the same thing might be quite likely to be true.

Yumyumyumyumyum · 29/10/2026 11:27

It's sad. My son grew up listening to DW books being read to him by his dad at bedtime.

I used to like Rolf Harris as a kid. Are there any non sex obsessed men out there? 😢

Fairweathersorties9 · 29/10/2026 14:07

I was interested in the broader issues raised in the Private Eye podcast, about Contempt of Court legislation and how this isn’t really working very well in this day and age, when the mainstream media mostly abides by the rules, but cases are being discussed all over sm, a bit like this thread 😀

As they mentioned in the discussion, I understand why it’s a criminal offense to publish or publicly discuss anything that creates a "substantial risk of serious prejudice" to a case, regardless of whether someone intended to cause harm, but then it’s also kind of ludicrous that people are frequently stating their opinions on X, Reddit and other sm sites during the trial of Russell Brand for example?

LillyPeacePlant · 29/10/2026 14:25

Any news on the judges ruling?

HoraceCope · 29/10/2026 18:18

known has PPT on Victoria Derbyshire instagram.

HoraceCope · 29/10/2026 18:19

At the end of the trial on Wednesday, Mr Justice Nicklin said he hoped to deliver a decision next week. “The court will have to reserve judgment in this case. I appreciate the urgency. I will do everything I can to deliver a judgment next week,” he said.

Ppt is a randomly assigned cypher used to protect the identity of an anonymous claimant

Why is DW being called PPT?
What does PPT stand for?

Because you can hardly have a court case about protecting identity and then use the person's initials.
