I would LOVE to know the Linekar one. I can guess the Beckham one.

im surprised with the Beckham one that hes managed to keep things quiet.

I cant comment on him specifically but I dont wholly agree with what you say in general. Some repeated suicide attempts are behavioural, not MH related and therefore, cant really be stopped or treated, we do see this in young people quite a lot

But there is a terrible thread running at the moment about someone who is very depressed, feels they are not really being adquately treated and has made countless attempts, its very distressing and visceral for sufferers.

But how can you make multiple sincere attempts? Ending one’s life is sadly easy. If you’re repeatedly swallowing 20 paracetamol and then phoning 999, or making superficial wrist cuts, that to me is not a suicide attempt, it’s self harm.

Genevieva · 27/10/2026 22:54

The reasoning sounds more like a threat. I don’t think it should succeed, as it essentially holds the press and the justice system to ransom.

3luckystars · 27/10/2026 23:08

This is probably not the right place to post this, but I have to say one of the funniest funniest things I have ever seen in my entire life was the episode with him in ‘who do you think you are’
I am actually laughing here again even thinking about it, it was absolutely priceless funny.
I don’t even know how I would go about finding a clip of it but I’ll try to describe it.

So you know the way they bring experts in to tell them about their ancestors and they are usually kind of nerdy historian types, well this expert guy had found out that DWs ancestors were entertainers, so it was filmed on a beach front type promenade, (instead of the usual quiet library type serious place) he had located a big old wind up music box type creepy thing from a carnival and he started playing it in front of him.
It was playing this really weird squealy, old horror type music and your man was playing it away at DW, and he had this sort of scared smile in his face.

Im probably not describing it very well but it was so so so funny. It was like he was shocked but also trying to keep smiling because he was in public and also in front of the cameras, I just remember rewinding it and pausing it at his face.

it was like he was being set up and was waiting for Ant and Dec to burst out, but it was real. Sorry for the long post but it just reminded me of that, I don’t know if any of you have seen that episode but I nearly died laughing.

I know the Linekar one. I also know the UK's libel laws and have no desire to have his lawyers after me!

It's a very convoluted mess and quite a few people have been paid big sums of money to keep their mouths shut.

I thought this was a beautifully crated hint!.. then I was not sure due to the reactions to your post.

DW - has been outed in the foreign press about getting an injunction - so I assume it is him.

Nothavingagoodvalentinesday · 28/10/2026 00:16

We cannot have a justice system where rich individuals can influence or bypass the normal workings of the courts. Court proceedings are public for a reason. We have to know what is going on so that justice is transparent and honest. Secrecy leads to corruption and injustice.
Of course we have to know what these allegations are and to whom they relate.

What is the police track record on dealing with cases of sexual assault and rape ?

Oh
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckx2qgjd0w3no

There are a wealth of victims saying the same thing. And there are a wealth of reasons why this may never get to court, and why those victims have spoken to journalists instead.

It’s much easier for traumatised survivors of sex crimes to speak to a journalist in their own home about what’s happened than to stand up in a witness box and be grilled on your previous sexual behaviour by a KC in front of a jury and the world’s media.

They’re more likely to be believed by journalists, and will feel safer telling their story among many others who have had similar experiences.

They may have been to the police and have not been believed, or their cases have not met the threshold for prosecution.

The defendant may not be deemed fit to stand trial.

Journalists have a fantastic track record of exposing powerful men in the entertainment industry way before the criminal justice system catches up.

Writing about this type of man is not trial by media, it’s an agent of change and a way to expose people who, for decades, have somehow escaped criminal prosecution. In fact, as we’re seeing right now in another highe profile case, criminal prosecution is often hastened by adverse publicity. In that case, the defendant would never have been in court had it not been for brave journalists who have been threatened with libel and other legal proceedings on multiple occasions.

If you’re saying journalists should never write about powerful men committing potential criminal acts before any court case then you’re saying we shouldn’t have a free press. The expenses scandal would never have been broken, Boris Johnson breaching Covid regs would never have been made public, Prince Andrew would still be a Prince…

You have to feel sorry for his child. And his poor mum who he's touted round as a front for him being an absolute cunt.

If he truly is suicidal can he not be sectioned? He's refusing to engage with mental health services but being sectioned is the answer to that. Or maybe it doesn't work like that

I’m sure I read in a report that the celebrity had made some suicide attempts and had been hospitalised around May?

It's not NC as far as I know + I can't see how he could afford it. It's a v v expensive to take out an injunction. If I recall correctly, NC is broke due to lack of work.

monkeybag123 · 28/10/2026 00:40

I think in all this we should remember if it is dw or not he has a young son . My husband threatened suicide many times and people said he was being manipulative but one day he went through with it leaving our 12 year old to pick up the pieces . Think people should calm down and look for something else to have a big thrill about !

JustHereForTheShitsAndGiggles · 28/10/2026 00:46

The irony of his court case to get a super injunction to stop his behaviour being reported on is actually being reported on. Play stupid games etc.

@likelysuspect

They're suggesting someone who had a starring role on a popular sitcom.

PigletJohn · 28/10/2026 01:27

I'm not keen on rich people being able to get injunctions to hush things up.

On another point, I understand that injunctions in English courts have no effect in other countries. Such as USA, France, and Scotland.

We live in a global village. Anybody can look at foreign news stories

It's available on BBC iPlayer (if you have a TV license).

@monkeybag123 im really sorry for your loss. I posted about Jason Arday elsewhere and how I felt the press hounded a vulnerable man. He wouldnt have had the lawyers that this person has.

This situation is tough one because the case apparently is related to younger women/teens so we really dont know what is about to come out. I can completely see why the person is terrified of this happening. But I think his actions have caused this, and these are the repercussions. They can't gag the press.

Sorry for your loss.

The women who have allegedly been sexually assaulted have families and lives and no doubt some of them have children and they may well have been driven to suicidal thoughts by this man’s alleged actions. They should see justice taken.
