MPs must do some sort of national service before getting anywhere near Parliament, to give them some experience of living like their constituents: working in a minimum wage job for a year (with no other backup), preferably in a customer-facing role, or serving a short prison sentence. And yes, I do mean that last one seriously. If people in government experienced prison at the sharp end, they would see what really goes on, and might have more will to do something about it: not like when they occasionally visit prisons, and get the VIP treatment.

So many MPs were born into wealth, and as such, knew nothing but wealth and privilege their entire lives.
