Getting a baby's ears pierced is tantamount to abuse.

Disagree. Most kids nowadays are not being coddled; they’re growing up with both parents working and attending mega schools with overly rigid behaviour policies - this is the opposite of coddling.

"overly rigid behaviour policies" are an attempt to keep c1,800k + teenagers safe, and have appropriate behaviour for learning and respect for others.

-Abortion is always wrong (not looking for a fight on that here lol)

-Sex is nice but overrated.

-I would never accept a hen night* being associated with my wedding (long since married now)

*I first encountered these as a shy 17 yr old boy (decades ago) and was genuinely deeply shocked to see how some people behave on them. My opinion of women up until that point was one of immense respect (it has never recovered since!) and it was actually traumatic to me, to witness how people can behave in the run up to their wedding, when they think no-one will find out.

Watching brides-to-be snogging man after man in pubs etc definitely left me with some kind of trauma / PTSD to the extent that, even today, I immediately feel deeply uncomfortable if I encounter a hen do. From then on there was no chance of my future fiancee having a hen do, the poor dear, but hey-ho blame the sisterhood!

"I respect women so much but not enough that they can make choices about their own bodies or how they celebrate their own milestones"

Although maybe if she was marrying such an obvious incel she wasn't celebrating!

It might be obvious but my hill I'd die on is that men do not get a say in wether or not women have abortions. My body my choice.

Football is shit. There is nothing good about 30 degree heat.

I'm totally with you on the 30 degree heat. It is beyond my comprehension as to why, when 20 -22 degrees is comfortable and pleasant, why 30 degrees,or more is regarded as being desirable and enjoyable.

Yes. And circumcision.

It's awful. I hate witnessing it being done... makes me feel sick.

People who are for human rights should extend that to unborn humans.

I might be finding multiple versions of your corpse across various small mountain ranges as I'd strongly disagree with a couple of those 😂

Mine would be that you can't call margarine butter. Or rather that it should be outlawed to do so.

In fact margarine should be outlawed in general accept for in baking recipes. It cannot be spread on bread or toast or mixed into scrambled egg or anything! Arghhh!

I do so agree with margarine, I’d even ban calling it ‘you can!t believe it's not …’ Bollocks. Believe me, I can certainly believe it’s not butter.
But it's odd, isn’t it, that a product that tastes so nasty in its raw state produces such light and fluffy cakes. Even so, I prefer the flavour you get with real butter.

Anyone who allows a child to have a device that allows access to the internet in their rooms at night is insane

The rise of the mega schools where we’ve closed smaller more local secondary and grammar schools is to the detriment of our children’s education.

OsfameronTanamoril · 13/10/2026 17:10

Interesting the number of anti-abortion posts on a women's site. Course at least one is a man.

I agree. And this emotional school avoidance thing is bollocks and down to shitty parenting.

Can you imagine getting away with ‘emotional school avoidance’ in the 70s. Wouldn’t have happened

I was once in a beauticians where that was being done and I will never forget that baby's screaming.

durdledoris · 13/10/2026 17:11

Smoking when pregnant should be illegal.
So should talking on loudspeaker when in public.

Uricon2 · 13/10/2026 17:12

Charla69 · 13/10/2026 16:26

Exactly. Genetics are wild sometimes.

Hills I will die on: Ban smoking, drugs and alcohol. I'm sick of the damage it does to people and their families.

Same for scalping or any sort of greedyvreselling that takes away from people with hobbies or children.

Any sort of transphobia, homophobia, racism or ableism needs stamping out immediately. I'm sick of it.

Prohibition didn't really work out so well.

ChillingWithMySnowmies · 13/10/2026 17:12

schools these days behave like prisons. They're stressing our kids out and not 'preparing them for adult life' in the slightest.

Critical thinking is becoming a lost art.

I would agree. So we have these huge schools, there has to be managed behaviour. Most students really appreciate it, feeling safe around the school, and having a learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Out of curiosity do you think that British citizens that haven’t contributed to the system should have priority (in said system) over let’s say a Spanish person that has lived in the UK for 10 years and have been employed and contributed to the system for 9 out of those 10 years?

Thats a good question and not a yes or no answer. I’d say it depends. Someone thats a high earner and has paid in more than they’ve takes out perhaps however most people aren’t net contributors. A line needs to be drawn somewhere and I’d say if they wanted the benefits of being a British citizen why not become one? I understand they may not want to and that’s fair enough however it goes back to the perks of being a citizen of said country.

Vader finds out that Luke has a sister, and makes the connection that they must be twins because he knows what Luke doesnt, that his mother died in childbirth. That is the point when Luke finds out that he and Leia are in fact twins, which is AFTER the conversation in the Ewok village.

ETA Just done some googling and George Lucas said that the original story he planned (that Padme would survive for a while hiding with Leia) was changed, and that the reason Leia has this "memories" is indeed through the force.

Edited

Thanks @PyongyangKipperbang I was struggling to remember exact details.. plus I couldn't watch past the first film of the unholy trinity of prequels

There is absolutely no hill I’m prepared to die on. And I reckon I’m all the happier for it.

I am only prepared to die for my children. Aside from them, nothing!

Agree 100% unless solely for medical reasons

Men are not women and there is no such things as a trans child.
Polyamorous relationships are innately unstable.
Universities are making themselves irrelevant by accepting anybody with the funds to attend.
Life/consciousness continues after death. We just dont know how or why.
Open borders are a complete madness and an existential threat to nation states.
EDI has done the exact opposite to what it set out to do, by creating resentment and division.
Most people are decent (and I don't assume others are stupid because opinions happen to diverge)
Social media has dysregulated people and made them ruder IRL - and unable to cope with differences of opinion.
Disney/Star Wars obsessesd adults - is a sign of emotional immaturity. (We once knew this to be true.)
A lot of what gets called neurodivergence is just personality differences. I've yet to see what a 'neurotypical' brain looks like. If its a spectrum, where's the line? (Hands up, I'm fed up of people, perfectly capable of living independently and advocating for themselves, sucking up resources needed for those who cannot)

No, they don't "behave like prisons". How silly.

Echobelly · 13/10/2026 17:15
  • Nurseries and schools should stop serving anything except fruit as dessert - why are we teaching kids to expect sweeties after meals?
  • The UK should start formal education at 6 like a lot of other places- 4 year olds are just at such wildly different levels of readiness for learning
  • A toddler doesn't need a tablet or games on your phone - there's no need to start them on constant quickfire entertainment that young
  • 'Instagram faces' are a surface made for phone screens, not the reflection of a personality and look weird and jarring in real life
  • If Jewish people (of which I am one) want to save some concept of a Jewish state we need to call Israel to account, not try to defend everything it does.
