Would you buy a house that has two showers and no bath?

I'd like to get rid of our bath and install a shower cubicle which would free up some much needed storage space in our small family bathroom.

No one in our household has had a bath in years and I feel a shower cubicle would work better for us (me and two adult DC).

The master bedroom already has a small en-suite shower room which DH uses.

But I'm concerned no bath could put people off buying when we sell up in a few years time (5+ years).

Would you be happy buying a house with no bath?

Would never buy a house with a bath especially those with a water meter

hellospring26 · Yesterday 16:39

Absolutely but noting I had small kids

We replaced a bath with a walk in shower (still have a roll top else where though). You can buy showers that are the same size as a standard tub which makes them quite easy to change back if you keep a few spare tiles to redo the wall where the plumbing is changed.

I'd prefer two showers to a bath and shower ... we have 3 showers and 1 bath which rarely gets used.

QueenStevie · Yesterday 17:44

No, absolutely not. I love a bath. DD has chosen her uni house on the basis it has a bath! She really missed it in halls last year.

FFSItsTooHot · Yesterday 17:58

Wouldn't bother me as a I always have a shower,I can't actually get in and out of a bath due to osteoarthritis in my hip. But I know a lot of people that it WOULD put off!

PruLeithsNecklace · Yesterday 18:20

Could you set it up so a bath could be easily added back in, as in make sure the shower is in the right place for an over the bath shower and the pipes are in the right place so then when you want to move you just need to remove the shower enclosure and get the bath drain plumbed in, shouldn’t cost too much.

We all managed in the 1960s when very few houses had showers.

I tend to shower 99% of the time, but sometimes I like a nice long wallow in the bath. I am never very dirty when I have a bath as I don't work down a mine.

I guess people who dislike the idea of a bath never go swimming then?

I don't bath but if I did i wouldn't put chlorine in it.

TubeScreamer · Yesterday 18:26

No because 2 members of my family love baths.

wouldnt bother me personally as I love showers. I haven’t had a bath in 14 years.

ByUniqueViper · Yesterday 18:35

Yes. We bought a new build and we asked if they would put a shower in rather than a bath in the house bathroom but they wouldn't. You need the house to work for you

In five years, if the market requires it, you can install a bath. Live your life!

This ! Enjoy your home. leave enough space that you can install a bath when you come to sell if it really is the dealbreaker so many people think

Bandanina · Yesterday 18:44

It would attract me! Older couple and future proofing possibly not being so comfortable climbing over a bath to have a shower, plus I never had a bath even when we had one in the house.

I find it so weird people don't have baths. Like, never have a bath? So strange.

I haven’t had a bath in more than 10 years. We’ve lived in this house for 10 years and three years in when we realised that neither of us had had a bath in that time we renovated both bathrooms. We took the bath out, replaced with a big walk-in shower and took the cubicle out of the en-suite and added another walk-in. Both bathrooms have plenty of room to re-install a bath if necessary. It certainly wouldn’t cost upwards of £5k to do it.

Wewinnow · Yesterday 18:50

If I bought a house without a bath I’d have to get one put in pretty pronto.

rwalker · Yesterday 18:51

If you are thinking of selling then put in 1700mmx700mm walk in shower then the foot print is there for a bath with minimal disruption to put one in
My niece had a full size pop up bath for when her kids were small it stood in shower base

cartagenagina · Yesterday 18:52

Yes. I would never buy a house where I couldn’t have a proper shower. Never use the bath.

Rachie1974 · Yesterday 19:03

We've ripped out our 2 upstairs baths and replaced with large walk in showers, we do have a bath in the downstairs bathroom but don't think it's been used as a bath in about 5 years, just the over shower.
Would only bother me if I had younger kids, but mine are teens now.
It's easy enough to replace a bath if needed, live the life you want in your own home.

UndeadLife · Yesterday 19:09

As a childfree person who doesn't enjoy baths yes, i would.

Noodles1234 · Yesterday 19:10

We never use our bath for bathing, but do for rinsing larger objects when they need a clean. If you’re selling I might keep it but so many places now don’t have baths.

BuildbyNumbere · Yesterday 19:13

My parents did this and sold their house fine … to a family with teenagers.

MrsKindredSpiritus · Yesterday 19:18

Yes, I have got three showers and no bath, once DC hit teenage years the bath was never used so I replaced it with a shower when I re-did the last bathroom.

No, I realised the importance of having a bath available after a very long time not having one. I wouldn't ever buy a house without one.

ToadRage · Yesterday 19:23

I would keep the bath if you are looking to sell sooner rather than later. MiL only has a shower and really struggled to sell her 4-bed family home. They have lived there for 40 years but are both now elderly and want something smaller. She can be single-minded, and stuck on what she believes it to be worth, she will not budge despite people (us, friends, estate agents) telling her her target market of young families expect a bath and will drop the price if they need to change the bathroom.

GoodkneeBadKnee · Yesterday 19:27

Our house had a manky old bath in a pokey downstairs bathroom when we bought it. It also had no central heating or double glazing. We had a toddler at the time. We never used the bath and used to shower dc in the slightly less manky shower upstairs. So to answer your question, yes I'd buy a house with no bath.

I personally couldn't care less about a bath, but then I don't have children.

Cousins abroad had a bath which was the same foot print of the actual shower. It was about 30-40cm deep and used as a shower 90% if the time, but when filled, could fit 2-3 small children sitting in it. I've never seen the exact same in the UK, but a small bath might be an option with the usual shower screens around it, IF you want to keep some element of a bath

I did consider putting something like this in, that may still be a good option.
