Favourite poorly food

Currently full of some kind of cold/flu/covid virus. When I can taste, favourite poorly food = cream of tomato soup with bread & loads of butter to dip, or toast/crumpets with butter & marmite. Jelly babies or soft fruit jellies and orange Lucozade for sugar.

How about you?

Lemon curd sandwich, on white bread with no crusts.

northernbarbie · 13/10/2026 21:22

I’ve just stuck an ep of Gilmore Girls on and Lorelai is having chicken noodle soup and mashed potatoes for breakfast whilst ill, a popular choice!

Raisinsandweetabix · 13/10/2026 21:24

Sorry but if I'm 'poorly' food is not really what I'm thinking of. I mean, if you have a cold you generally can't taste much, and if it's a tummy bug, well that's self explanatory?

I don't have much of a choice due to ill heath. I made some curried lentil soup on Sunday. It was very nice otherwise Im limited to chicken fish and vegetarian dishes, obviously I'm allowe vegetables. No ultraprocessed food at all

I don’t think it’s hard to understand that when people aren’t feeling too great they might enjoy some comfort food. I’ve never fully lost my taste with a cold, but lose it enough to not want to cook anything so something quick and comforting like soup is perfect

Tea and toast - and I don't usually drink tea. Also jam and cream doughnuts because that's what my mum would give us (what a woman!)

Singingdolly · 13/10/2026 21:46

Chicken and rice soup, salt and vinegar hula hoops and fruit pastels

OffTheMap · 13/10/2026 22:16

M&S Clotted Cream Rice Pudding

I am so chesty atm and would love someone to make me some proper chicken noodle soup with real chicken and chicken stock.

Hope you feel better soon OP!

My vote goes to Heinz Chicken Soup with buttered white bread! 😋

Floppyearedlab · 13/10/2026 23:33

I literally loathe soup. That would seem like extra punishment on top of being ill.

I would say toast, salt and vinegar crisps, pasta or anything someone else e makes me so I don’t have to

I can confirm I just had eggy bread with ketchup and it was bloody lovely. Only problem is I want more!

When I've got a streaming cold, few things perk me up more than a piping hot mug of Bovril.

Oh, I've definitely not been starving it... maybe that's where I've been going wrong 😆

Cream of tomato soup and a Greggs sausage roll to dip.i already have some in the freezer ready for the winter. A cheese toastie or as described above a hardboils egg mashed in a cup with butter, salt abc pepper and toast. I just want carbs when I’m ill.

I thought it was feed a cold, starve a fever…that’s what my nurse gran would say.

lauraingleswilder · Yesterday 18:40

I’m poorly with the cold that seems to be wiping a lot of people out, and I’ve had the classic of Cream of Chicken soup, with buttered white bread dipped in. Feeling warm and comforted now.

A tin of baxters cock a leekie and a bottle of red lucozade sorts me out.

Liketolurk · Yesterday 18:42

Another vote for dippy egg and soldiers. Or jam on toast.

As well as eggy bread today I've eaten loads of raspberry jam & butter on white bread. So good.

Soft boiled eggs, white bread soldiers so heavily buttered it's yellow, and a really hot cup of very sweet tea.

AnewlifeintheCountry · Yesterday 18:49

Shell pasta with peas, with ketchup and grated cheese mixed through.
