Favourite poorly food

Currently full of some kind of cold/flu/covid virus. When I can taste, favourite poorly food = cream of tomato soup with bread & loads of butter to dip, or toast/crumpets with butter & marmite. Jelly babies or soft fruit jellies and orange Lucozade for sugar.

How about you?

Hot Ribena and chocolate fingers.

chips from the chip shop with LOTS of salt and vinegar

Home made chicken soup, AKA Jewish penicillin. I read a research article that it does actually have anti inflammatory properties and is good when you are congested and have a cold.

As a side note OP, I bought a neti pot a few years ago. You MUST use the salt sachets and only boiled water, but the relief when you are congested is lovely.

Eggy bread with ketchup for dipping.

Oh my god that's a good one. Eggy bread tomorrow! Did you ever have sugar on it as a kid? 👌

Not sugar but have had it with a bit of honey before. I want some now!

FadedRed · 13/10/2026 16:46

An ‘egg in a cup’ - hard boiled egg, deshelled whilst still very hot and mashed in a mug with butter and salt (pepper if you must), served with hot buttered toast or buttered bread.

blackheartsgirl · 13/10/2026 17:05

Tomato soup with a cheese butty dipped in
lovely!

when I’m feeling better, cottage pie with baked beans on the side..ooo

what's wrong with the word poorly?

common word used round here and where I grew up

mrsdolittle · 13/10/2026 17:26

Tomato soup with very well buttered white toast
Dippy eggs with very well buttered white toast
cheese toastie
salt and vinegar crisps
A really good satsuma - not an easy peeler - a proper satsuma. This is only applicable when satsumas are in season.
Hot orange squash
Beans on toast with marmite on the toast, then beans

Somanyhotdrinks · 13/10/2026 17:28

A bowl of cereal.

FFSItsTooHot · 13/10/2026 17:28

My go-to food when I'm not well is always toast with Marmite.

Madcats · 13/10/2026 17:29

For me, it has to be Thai. That combination of garlic, chilli and ginger does wonders for clearing sinuses.

Hope you feel better soon, OP.

CoastalCalm · 13/10/2026 17:32

Tomato soup for me too and then cottage pie when I’m feeling better

DrunkenKoala · 13/10/2026 17:42

Dairylea sandwiches (white bread) dipped in Heinz tomato soup.
Bran flakes covered in hot milk

Rubyupbeat · 13/10/2026 17:47

Heinz tomato soup poured over packet mash potato and a glass of lucozade

UndeadLife · 13/10/2026 19:14

Super noodles. Soft, easy to eat, quick to make, and cheap so not bothered if they get wasted.

RobinHumphries · 13/10/2026 19:48

Hot and sour soup

TheBestSpoon · 13/10/2026 19:52

Heinz tomato soup
Crumpets with lashings of butter and maybe strawberry jam
Cold vanilla custard Muller rice
Bananas

If I had a stomach bug as a kid, when I was well enough to eat, my mum used to make a mashed banana and honey sandwich. Never had it at any other time, but then it was exactly what I wanted!

springintospring26 · 13/10/2026 20:25

Home made chicken and barley soup.
Ambrosia cream rice pudding

NancyJoan · 13/10/2026 20:31

Boiled egg with buttered white bread, or tinned tomato soup with the same. There is no other acceptable sick day lunch for me.

Snowie99 · 13/10/2026 20:39

All these foods sound comforting and delicious. Only trouble is that I’ve not been ill for the last 30 years!

Iocanepowder · 13/10/2026 20:42

Fish fingers with pasta in garlic butter and melted cheese on top

I was going to say the same. I can't ever remember being ill. Some of these sound so disgusting though, I'm sure they'd make me feel ill.

Lokshen
New potatoes

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 13/10/2026 21:17
