What time are you popping round?

I would ask them what time! But for me it would mean 4-5pm. No later than 6pm

OriginalSkang · 10/10/2026 15:11

I would ask them what time that was for them

cartagenagina · 10/10/2026 15:11

4-5

TallagallaPenguin · 10/10/2026 15:12

Depends if they mean cup of tea / cake (I’d check but likely 4-5pm ish) or if they mean tea evening meal for eating food with them - and again I’d check as it’d depend when they ate. My sisters family with young kids would be 6pm eating so I’d get there a bit in advance, or my friends it’d be more aiming to arrive before 7.30-8 onwards.

Basically I would make no assumptions and check for an actual time.

TheChosenTwo · 10/10/2026 15:13

I’d probably ask for clarification because I don’t drink tea or eat tea (I have dinner) and I eat my evening meal a lot later than most people seem to on MN.

JustWalnut · 10/10/2026 15:13

Half five ish.

MadamWhippy · 10/10/2026 15:13

6 - 6.30

TheThirteenthFairy · 10/10/2026 15:14

I would say, 'What sort of time would you be thinking of? Ish?'

Why yes, I am pedantic.

MeowDoku · 10/10/2026 15:16

6ish so between 5:30 and 6:30

NormasArse · 10/10/2026 15:17

Between 5 and 6.

throwaway3749574 · 10/10/2026 15:18

I’d clarify “cup of tea - time” (4pm) or tea/dinner time (5/6pm)

fumingrightnow1 · 10/10/2026 15:18

I would ask but expect them to say 5ish

Coconutter24 · 10/10/2026 15:19

If someone invited me round at tea time I would just respond with a yes and a simple is 5ish ok for you?

CactusCuttings · 10/10/2026 15:20

I would ask what time they want me and assume they meant a cup of tea.

DoAWheelie · 10/10/2026 15:21

I tend to eat about 7-8pm and prefer to arrive about 30 mins before eating so I'd aim for about 6:30.

Unless it's a Sunday, then it's usually a late lunch about 3-4pm so I'd arrive around 2:30pm.

Voltorb · 10/10/2026 15:23

Approximately 5-6pm but I would have clarified first as tea time is subjective.

sherbetlemonade · 10/10/2026 15:24

4.30

Wewinnow · 10/10/2026 15:26

To me, tea time is four o’clock. I was born at ten to four and my mother always liked to say that I arrived “just in time for tea”.
I’d have to check though, just in case tea meant dinner - in which case I’d probably go at 6-ish.

redskyAtNigh · 10/10/2026 15:26

I'd think 5pm, but I always check times after the occasion when MIL said she would be coming round "before lunch" and arrived at 8am. (Yes, she was technically accurate but ...)

gullgal · 10/10/2026 15:42

6pm

redfishcat · 10/10/2026 15:53

I’d ask them to define tea time, is it afternoon tea of cake and a cuppa or full on evening meal.
3-4 pm for the former and dinner (known as tea in some areas of the U.K. )can be from 5 pm to 8 pm

brownbootsandhats · 10/10/2026 15:53
