this sounds amazing.

It really is. Simple cheap and quick to make on the stove, freezes well. Total winner. I don't gave a soup maker. Or a bread maker. I'm old school. And old. 👵

OreganoandFeta · 10/10/2026 11:45

Sweet potato, coconut, lemongrass and ginger - this recipe but I add lentils and don't bother with the lime www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/sweetpotatoandcoconu_8811

Shedmistress · 10/10/2026 11:53

I never use a recipe, I just use whatever veg I have and add what I think will go with it. So this week I had loads of spinach to use up so I made a potato and spinach soup which we had yesterday and are having again today. If I have a load of tomatoes to use up I'll add smoked paprika and some beans. If I have a load of leeks I'll add thyme and potatoes.

I fear my soup maker has died as it's not blending. 😪
Will try again and then maybe back to a pan and see what is in the Black Friday sales in a few weeks

TheBluebird · 10/10/2026 11:55

I don't have a soup maker but I do make soup all year round. One of the few things that grew well in my garden this year was leeks. So it's leek and potato here as well. Probably throw win some chilli and sweetcorn as well.

No soup maker but I just made this, it’s the only soup I’ve made over and over

just roasted 2 red peppers, 6 vined tomatoes, 1 red onion, drizzled with olive oil.

then blitzed with a blender, bit of garlic puree, salt, pepper and lots of paprika

and a drip of double cream

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 10/10/2026 12:28

-Pea and ham. Mine is more like a stew consistency, but can be thinned to make more soup like. 2 packets of quick soak peas (1 pack if you want a thinner soup or to make a smaller amount), 1 smoked ham hock/knuckle.
Soak the peas as per the packet and rinse well and add to the soup pot with fresh water
You can chop the hock up or leave whole and it will fall apart
Add any veg you like- onion, carrots, celery, potatoes, swede etc and cook till done. I don't need additional salt or stock because the hock has enough salt d flavour in it.

It’s very filling and aromatic, I have also added butternut squash, forgot the ginger, added extra chilli etc so it’s forgiving too

StormGazing · 10/10/2026 12:56

I buy loads of frozen chopped veggies, onions, garlic and chicken strips from Asda. I add bits of everything, someone, coconut milk and some chilli - yum!
… oh and stock of course

I don't think a single person here has said anything criticising soup makers.

I’ve lurked on a lot of soup threads (!) and there are always a few posters that criticise the very existence of soup makers.
I think the Op was just hoping head those posters off before the same old issues are raised.
I use both soup maker and a pan depending on mood!

Some lovely recipes - thanks for the thread.

Calling for "peace", labelling others scolds and mentioning Klaxons is a bit combative though when you've not had a single aspersion cast on your choice of cooking receptacle.

Ah well, my lunch was very nice

That is virtually my pea and ham,my mum used ham shank but I have used other cuts.

I do mine in the slow cooker as I think it improves the longer it is cooked.

Apart from no klaxon went off.

I’m toying with the idea of buying a soup maker but just worried it’ll sit in the cupboard like the ice cream maker looking at you husband and your impulsive purchase
I don’t have a decent stick blender I don’t think.

Sherunswithwolves · 10/10/2026 16:59

I love my soup maker. One thing that is a really nice addition to recipes is a handful of Merchant Gourmet roasted chestnuts - they've added a lovely depth and smoothness to the soups I've made.

I often add acashew nuts to a carrot or squash soup
