Its in America but FFS !! for people who don't know much about rollercoasters and why the lawsuits are so dubious, the X2 peaks at 4 G's which is average for a rollercoaster (they range from 3 G to 6 G) so if 4 G's was causing brain bleeds almost EVERY rollercoaster would

Sad times where people can get anything "cancelled" or taken down through pure greed alone if you don't like rollercoasters don't ride em period !!

looking forward to fairs where all youre allowed to legally ride is the teacups !! NOT

Six Flags Closes X2 Coaster After Brain Injuries

Two riders suffered brain hemorrhages six days apart, prompting Six Flags Magic Mountain to end the iconic coaster's turbulent 24-year history.

Not irate , just fed up with cancel culture and I can see how this is going to open up a new wave of people deciding they don't like a ride and they can get money for writing fake complaints about it . eventually fairs will be a thing of the past !!

You can't write a fake complaint if you've died of head injuries, can you?

exhaustedandoverit · 05/10/2026 11:57

Is it too late to sue Alton towers for the sore neck I got on the corkscrew I wonder 🤔

GasPanic · 05/10/2026 11:58

As above, AI wins again.

The g force experienced on each roller coaster is a vector which is time dependent.

Thus the complete experience in gforce from coaster to coaster cannot be described by a scalar quantity (single number).

Because nobody's ever made fake death claims before.

Explain why every other rollercoaster isn't causing these fatal brain bleeds given 4 G's is what most rollercoasters peak at ... just the X2 .. which logically makes no sense !!

If you did any research into it you would have found out the ride has rubbish shock absorbers and riders are banging their head on the head rest. Then given the nature of the ride spinning whilst it goes around the track this is then exacerbating the impact the G force has as it's a whiplash style rotational pull which twists the brain.

CheeseNPickle3 · 05/10/2026 12:00

Ok, read the article now. It's not the first time that particular coaster has had issues - it's been closed, redesigned and reopened before. It was last closed in July after 2 injuries in 6 days, but there are other reports of fairly serious injuries and deaths linked to it that the park has settled in the past. I'm sure it's not alone in this - a big rollercoaster is a huge investment for a park, so if they can make modifications for increased safety then they often do.

Safety isn't just about making sure that the cars don't crash and they don't fall off the track, they also have to consider the impact that it has on people riding it. It might have a 4G limit, but that's not the end of the story. The dangerous part seems to be the sudden changes in G force and direction.

They could keep it open, but people are going to lose confidence in it so it won't make as much money and potentially they could end up paying out more compensation if there are injuries in the future, especially once they're aware of these issues.

Rollercoaster design has to be about safety as well as fun and thrills.

What things that have been cancelled do you miss most?

Some people are irrationally ignorant (knock on wood). The fact op has no sympathy for those affected, doesn't seem to know or care about the severity of their life changing injuries, and that there were fatalities says it all.
Just because you're happy living in your "fun" little bubble op where nothing can change in the world is astounding. It makes me wonder if you'd feel quite so ignorant had this been a member of your family that was affected, or you if you were fortunate enough to have your brain function afterwards.

G force is literally the rate of change in direction ... which at 4 G's , is nothing particularly special or intense compared to any other rollercoaster out there .. so saying a rate of change in G's is redundant ..

I think the OP has ridden the X2 one too many a time.

Isobel201 · 05/10/2026 12:06

My dad had been told that he could not go on certain rollercoasters due to an eye condition because of the G-forces. So he doesn't go on them and certainly won't sue even if he did. But yeah the article just says that the ride is closed, they're not banning all rollercoasters.

It literally is NOT what G force is at all. It’s the rate of acceleration. Honestly come armed with some basic facts and knowledge ya spoon.

There's a reason for that.

But that is a known medical condition and related to the "ride at your own risk" policy. The ride isn't supposed to cause injury to healthy people through no fault of their own. Freak accidents happen eg, somebody could have a heart attack on a ride due to an unknown heart condition, or faint etc. What happened with X2 is a whole different story, and not in the same ballpark.

concertinacornflake · 05/10/2026 12:11

janettetheirritated · 05/10/2026 11:11

Because I can see this being the start of a new cancel culture .. let's make up claims we were injured by a ride we thought was too intense and get them to close it down through sheer pressure ..

they just don't want people having fun anymore , they want people to live boring , watered down lives with no differences in opinion !!

There will be medical reports.

G force is the acceleration and it's not a constant 4G and nor is it always a positive 4G (or negative 4G). It's these changes in acceleration where the passengers' heads are free to move around and hit the headrests that seems to be causing the problem.

Maybe it could be fixed with redesigning the cars, but it looks like they've decided the cost isn't worth it.

Then where's all the hundreds of brain injuries from other rollercoasters which are also 4 G's or even higher ??

Hitting headrests isn't G's .. the G's themselves are being blamed ..

But why though? Why would multiple people, who presumably enjoy going on rollercoasters as they chose to go to this theme park, then decide to randomly make up serious injuries so that this ride would get closed down? What’s in it for them? And why would a variety of neurologists support their claim? Just for giggles?

No they are not, it is the whole design, rotation, stops and starts, read the information I sent you earlier in the thread. The 4G in combination with those other design factors is what made it dangerous.
Owners of multi billion theme parks don't close rides for "fun." There was far too much evidence.

Look at the design for the love of God. It is science, mechanics and a multitude of issues with this particular ride.

janettetheirritated · 05/10/2026 12:12

No they’re not either read properly or learn a bit about things. They’re attributing the injuries to a rapid acceleration deceleration event. The ride was unconventional in its design so comparing with different ride with the same g force is redundant. Why is MN full of odd bods today?

ChatGTF · 05/10/2026 12:18

Is it possible OP thinks the X2 peaks at 4 G's which is average for a rollercoaster (they range from 3 G to 6 G) and so if 4 G's was causing brain bleeds almost EVERY rollercoaster would?

I can’t imagine how devastating it would be to lose a family member or friend after they rode on a rollercoaster and their death could have been avoided. I’d definitely be appealing for the rollercoaster to be shut down to save other people going through that pain.
It’s a good job OP has a reasonable argument for her strength of feeling about this serious issue though.

I’m worried they will ban mobile phones next, I’ve noticed lots of people holding their phone in front of them on speaker phone rather then up to their ear and I suspect it might be down to the fear of getting brain tumours from the radio and microwaves.
I might start a thread about people cancelling all mobile phones down to cancel culture 🤔.

I don't know .. but you can't ignore the smell of rotten fish coming from these claims . and who says they were riders , other than that's what their families claimed ? how do you know the deceased even existed at all other than there are photos of them , which can be faked with AI nowadays ...
