Not a man-bashing thread. I am gay and have had a couple of smelly women too! But I've seen a fair few threads of late about husbands/partners with bad hygiene and I am curious. And wondering if I was just unlucky in my teens/early twenties before I realised that I was gay and men weren't for me at all.
My first boyfriend. He often left the loo without flushing it. I was forever finding 'logs' in the loo. Not something that allured me to him, certainly.
He'd also think nothing of going on a day out without having a wash. I remember him frequently saying 'Oh I stink!' as if it was just normal. I mean, if I suddenly realised I 'stank' I would be straight off to sort it out without uttering a word to anyone (not that it'd ever happen). We once went away for a night and he was wanting sex but he stank of stale BO. It was winter, so I said to him 'How can you sweat in this weather?!' He sniffed his armpit and said 'Why, am I sweaty?.. then 'I stink' just never had the consideration that he might be despite very clearly having not washed for at least a day, probably longer given how stale the scent was.
Second boyfriend, I once woke up next to him, he was still sleeping but scratching his bits in his sleep and a cheesy, musty smell drifting up from under the covers had actually woken me up! He got a job working with my Mum at one point and all the lads in the office noticed a smell and narrowed it down to him. It was his pants and nether regions. I lived with him briefly and one day my Mum picked me up to go on holiday and all my clothes smelt of the stale, musty smell that was his flat. I had become noseblind to it, but once on holiday I hand-washed all my clothes.
The third smelly one was the worst. He often stank of pee. He'd go for weeks maybe months, without washing properly. He had a sweet, hot kind of smell about him and had horrid loo habits too, once managing to get poo up the FRONT of the loo. Granted, he had a drink problem that went undetected by me for far too long, but how he managed that I've no idea. He'd smell of stale pee and still go out to get shopping. He had long hair that always looked as if it had been dipped in grease. When I met him, he was well-groomed and smelt lovely, but within a couple of years he'd turned into what I describe (and yes, I got out as soon as I could).
Had I just been very unlucky?
I haven't been with a man in over twenty years now.
