I’m about to spent £360 on a robot vac. Am I making the right decision?

I’ve been dithering for a while now. It took me about 4 years to decide to buy an air fryer for goodness sake. I don’t have pets, and only adult dc living at home. I just like the idea of one less thing to do and coming home to a clean floor every day. Am I making the right decision?

Yes buy it. I wish I'd bought one sooner.

We have a Roborock Qrevo and it's great.

MerelyPlaying · 03/10/2026 20:43

No, they’re round and so they don’t go into corners. They don’t mean that you’re never going to vacuum again - I still need to do the skirting, corners, lift up the sofa cushions and vacuum under there etc and use the extension for cobwebs. But I only need to get the Big Hoover out once a month or so (disclaimer: I’m not houseproud 😄)

KitsyWitsy · 03/10/2026 20:47

Mine was £800 and it's pretty good for keeping on top of things but you will still need to keep hoovering and doing a good proper mop in between times.

I thought “that can’t really be a thing?!?” then googled, and had to check it wasn’t a 1st April publication date when I read the article 😅

Yes there's quite a few. I've got my eye on the Ecovacs WS2 Omni

elperil · 03/10/2026 20:54

I don't have one and I don't think I will either. Not that there's anything wrong with them, and they do save time for many, but I just prefer my shark cordless, one upstairs, one downstairs and a shark handheld for the stairs. They are so handy and easy to use. No big chore like before when I had to plug and unplug and the stairs were such a faff that I used to use a stiff hand brush and vacuum the end of the stairs where the dust accumulated. I also find the choices, brands and functions are bewildering on the robots so I get flustered looking at them all!.

I will never say never though so am going to save this thread in case I get a eureka moment!

LetMeStayInBed · 03/10/2026 21:11

We have the one that sweeps and mops. I was reluctant but now I love it. We leave every day at 7 and are home at 6 to perfectly clean floors. If only it could cook too!

CaffeinatedMum · 03/10/2026 21:12

I love my robo hoover but that seems steep and we have two kids and two dogs for it to clean up after

realdeal7393 · 03/10/2026 21:13

I got one a month ago. Changed my life 😂 can’t believe I didn’t get one before now. Best thing ever!!!

Bjorkdidit · 03/10/2026 21:57

How often do you have to empty them, they look pretty small.

wishicouldhibernate · 03/10/2026 21:58

DO NOT GET THE SHARK ONE!

VivIsBlonde · 03/10/2026 22:05

I borrowed my sister’s for a week and thought it was totally useless!
I still had to get my hoover out every day and do around the edges of the rooms and around the ceilings because of the odd cobweb, and I don’t even have cats or dogs.

FamingolosForDays · 03/10/2026 22:07

My one was great before it broke- I would definitely check amazon fhough as its prime day on 6th october and there are already early deals available 😀

Yeah they don’t do ceilings unfortunately

I love mine, total game changer. I find for best results you need to send him off on his way every day. I have an eufy with mop function and he’s a bit mental at throwing himself over thresholds like the base of my console table. Still he manages it and cleans the floor under so I leave him to it (although he did knock a mop off once and needed rescuing) I tend to set him off when I’m working from home because I don’t trust the dog.

I love how he takes a short cut under my sofa to get back to base mid clean to empty himself or refill his water. The only thing I don’t love is how noisy it is when he goes back to base during the clean.

CantBegin · 04/10/2026 00:06

I have a Eufy and found the trick is to send it round to hoover first, then out again to mop. Otherwise it mops first then hoovers, leaving a weird residue of wet dog hair (maybe you can change it in the settings but not sure how). It’s not great on corners or under radiators but definitely saves time. It is noisy though and quite slow.

Nearly50omg · 04/10/2026 00:29

Don’t get a eufy they are shit

Wetleggg · 04/10/2026 00:54

Agree don’t get a eufy- thought it was great but broke after 2 months. They did send a replacement to be fair but it was faulty so actually never worked and the blinking lights signified a crucial missing part but they wouldn’t let me return until I’d uploaded some video of the lights in a file format but I could never get the bloody file attached. Landfill. Looking for a better alternative

Raggytail · 04/10/2026 01:58

We’ve had a eufy for 5 years, it’s just a basic model vacuum, cost about £170 and it’s brilliant. Cheap ones can work well, but it depends on the layout of your home and how many obstacles you have. Eg I stack our dining chairs so he has a free run… if I don’t he spends loads of time messing around under the table going back and forth between the chairs. And we have enough height on our sofas and coffee table for him to get underneath. There’s only me and DH at home, we are very clean and we don’t have pets and it’s astonishing how much dust, hair and crumbs he picks up. Wouldn’t be without him, would replace tomorrow if he broke down! (‘Him’ being the eufy, not DH 😆)

fuschiaproudparrot · 04/10/2026 02:04

I have one but prefer the Dyson.

wandawaves · 04/10/2026 02:09

I spent more than that, and it's the best thing I've ever bought! It's currently running, it's vacuumed already, now it's mopping.

wandawaves · 04/10/2026 02:11

GooseCreekandtheRiver · 03/10/2026 12:37

God yes! I am thankful for ours (and the robot lawnmower) every single day.

Obviously it depends on whether you can afford it, the one you choose and whether it meets your needs, but in general absolutely yes.

All I need now is a robot duster and a robot bathroom cleaner and I’m set 😄

Edited

Omg I'm so jealous of anyone with a robot lawnmower!! I really really want one, but I'll probably be moving house in a few months and may end up in an apartment 🙁

Gertlushthatis · 04/10/2026 07:28

Agree it's best to set it off daily. If you live life and try to use it after a few days it clogs up and has hissy fits.

SmokeAllamaDrama · 04/10/2026 07:44

I really really want one!

How do you choose a brand and model - it feels overwhelming?
