I’m about to spent £360 on a robot vac. Am I making the right decision?

I’ve been dithering for a while now. It took me about 4 years to decide to buy an air fryer for goodness sake. I don’t have pets, and only adult dc living at home. I just like the idea of one less thing to do and coming home to a clean floor every day. Am I making the right decision?

I expect it depends what your income is like. I've got a mop and vac eufy and it's delightful not to be walking on crumbs. No pets, 2 children, one primary one secondary age. It's good you can get it done while you're out. It's noisier than I expected.

Arregaithel · 03/10/2026 12:35

There are so many pricepoints @PinkAnimalPrint so expect you've done your due diligence, they're certainly a fantastic time saver.

I put it in ChatGPT.

God yes! I am thankful for ours (and the robot lawnmower) every single day.

Obviously it depends on whether you can afford it, the one you choose and whether it meets your needs, but in general absolutely yes.

All I need now is a robot duster and a robot bathroom cleaner and I’m set 😄

PinkAnimalPrint · 03/10/2026 12:37

It has a mop as well

Mine is currently hoovering my floors as I type. It’s a hoover hg2 and it’s really great. Took a bit of a while to understand the mapping and it hasn’t mapped all the corners etc so I still sometimes use the main vacuum to do those quickly. It’s been great for when I’m tired but the floors are muggy.

PinkAnimalPrint · 03/10/2026 12:38

I can afford it.

Can I carry it upstairs and set it off?

As long as it mops too you are making the best decisions ever

Can I jump on and ask a question? My mum has one and it’s rubbish but I suspect it was a pretty cheap one. I was there the other day and it took forever doing the same rooms over and over again and then getting stuck on kitchen stools etc.. Is this the same for all of them or do they get better the more you spend?

Chexton · 03/10/2026 12:40

We have a map for upstairs and downstairs. When you move it upstairs you have to carry the base too but it works well. We often just set it off before bed after putting all the chairs up off the floor. It’s so lovely to come downstairs to a hoovered and mopped floor!

We have the eufy hoover and mop and have different levels, high rugs etc and it copes with them all but it was c£300

OP-is it worth waiting for Prime day on Amazon next week to check you’re getting the best price?

managingexpectations · 03/10/2026 12:41

I love mine I swithered for ages because I wasn’t convinced it would be any good but I got one from Aldi of all places for £70. Hoovers and mops and does a pretty decent job of both.
I tidy up and dust down stairs, leave all the doors open and set of off while I do the rest of rhe house. By the time I’m done with the rest of the house work it’s finished and saved me some time.
id definitely replace it if it stopped working

Morecareneeded · 03/10/2026 12:42

Silly question, how does it know not to mop the carpets?

Sorry, answered my own question on the Eufy site and am now also investigating spending £300 + on an Eufy

socialdilemmawhattodo · 03/10/2026 12:46

I have 2, both EUFY. The little one hoovers only. Had it about 4 years - brilliant. I bought a 2nd one last year for downstairs tiled floors, mop and vac. Can't bear it. It's large and heavy, the mopping function is useless, much prefer my steam cleaner. I have 2 indoor cats who do cause a mess with eating and the litter aspect and it doesn't cope with that at all. The mapping function is tricky to set up and doesn't really work. So we were having issues with it getting stuck with the cats feeding mat despite being in an excluded zone.

MerelyPlaying · 03/10/2026 12:51

Answer to the question above, it depends on what you spend - cheaper ones just have sensors that bounce off the furniture. I’ve got one of those, it’s great to keep the overall level of cat hair down but it isn’t the most thorough.

More expensive ones have a sort of GPS which maps the area so they don’t clean the same bit three times. I will be buying one of those when I can afford it!

To the OP, I don’t think you will regret it. You do have to make sure there are no trailing phone chargers etc for it to chew.

TheDogsMother · 03/10/2026 12:58

I’ll save my money all the time DH keeps doing the vacuuming but I do remember a hilarious thread on here where a new puppy or kitten had an accident during the night and the robot cleaner proceeded to spread it all over the downstairs floor.

Moistcottonchafers · 03/10/2026 13:00

I'm currently procrastinating over a robot window cleaner. I have 18 glass door panels in my house and a dog who loves to smear his wet nose over them. I absolutely hate cleaning them.

I have a Eufy one that mops and vacuums. It's amazing what empties out after a day, even with a non shedding dog.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 03/10/2026 13:30

I have one for upstairs and down. If I had one that did the staircase, that would be perfect!

The only downsides are that, being round, they do not do a good job of corners, you have to keep changing the mop pads if- like me- you have a muddy garden and dogs, and sometimes one of them gets lost (despite mapping) and can't find its way back to the base... but it does a good job of keeping the hall clean overnight!

I thought “that can’t really be a thing?!?” then googled, and had to check it wasn’t a 1st April publication date when I read the article 😅

FuzzyBumbleeBee · 03/10/2026 20:32

Wouldn't be without mine I love being able to set it off and go do something else plus it mops as well which my old one couldn't do, it's the best thing I've spent money on in a long time
I do loose the mop matt's in the laundry as they're small but I just got extras for when they go awol

Ok no it doesn't get into every corner and I do still have to hoover twice a week despite using it daily but I have 2 dogs that shed like it's an Olympic sport as well as a cat and kids so I was hovering daily anyway sometimes twice a day in shedding season so a huge win for me

Gertlushthatis · 03/10/2026 20:35

I would wait for prime day or black Friday deals.

ladykale · 03/10/2026 20:36

I think they’re a bit rubbish. I’ve got one and find it’s a bit useless.

Lunchtimehelp · 03/10/2026 20:39

Do they get into the corners and edges of the room? I usually like to get the tube part of my vacuum to go around the edges.
