If you could time travel to one event or place for an hour, where do you go?

I think I’d go back to watch the Christmas nativity at my primary school in the seventies, to see all the fashions and my classmates

To the night my brother called before taking his life the following day. I didn’t realise that would be the last time I would get to speak to him.

Ah, I have a cunning plan to dodge the baby Hitler dilemma. Instead, delay Hitler senior by a day and there's a different sperm meaning a different baby.
So; take Hitler papa out on the piss..

As someone said above, I wouldn't bother trying to change history, because you can easily make something worse happen.

But with Hitler, I'd probably just let him get into art school? He'd have probably been less bitter.

Crunchymum · 25/09/2026 18:39

I'd go back to absolutely any day my mum was still alive, just to have one more day.

I won't give details as it may be outing, but there's a particular murder I would like to prevent and I know exactly when and where I would need to travel to, to stop it happening.

havingdoubtsnow · 25/09/2026 18:45

To clarify, cause it’s my thread so my rules, you can only visit to observe like a ghost. No interaction or intervention.

Oh, that changes my answer then.

It's difficult as there are lots of historical mysteries I'd like an answer to, but it would be impossible to be precise about the exact hour I would need to be observing!

keepswimming38 · 25/09/2026 18:53

@havingdoubtsnowmight have helped to put that in your first post then!

SweatyGibbon · 25/09/2026 19:02

I think I'd possibly fly for the first time again, or maybe go back to the first day of one of my early foreign holidays as a teen.

I'd go to Berlin for the fall of the wall, vaguely remember watching it on telly. 1989 felt like anything was possible

That’s a good idea - it must have been an amazing occasion.
I think I would go to either Beijing (or Peking as it was then known in the West) or Tokyo or Seoul in 1850. Even an hour would be fascinating.

Sunbringer · 25/09/2026 19:06

You changed the rules. To observe like a ghost? I’d go back to primary school and see what I was like as a kid.

AlwayAnxious · 25/09/2026 19:07

Can we time travel to the future?
If so, then i want to watch my own funeral

Simonjt · 25/09/2026 19:10

I’d go and see what our son looked like as a baby, even if it was just looking through the window at the hospital (not in a creepy way) or something.

  1. I just want to know the truth about what happened with one of my Brothers.
Mouldemort · 25/09/2026 19:12

Assuming I can't change anything, I'd hang out with Jane Austen for an hour.

AvengingAngle · 25/09/2026 19:12

Oooh, if we can go forwards I'll go forward to the next Euromillions draw and observe what the numbers are 😆

Or if that's not allowed, I'll spend an hour in the year 2226 just to see what's happening 200 years from now. I'll go to exactly the same spot as I'm sitting in now.

The first thing that sprung to my mind was the original Woodstock festival in the 60’s.

The beheading of Anne Boleyn!

😱

That said, I have daydreamed about travelling back in time on that day and flying over the Tower of London in a helicopter. I or someone else would speak through a megaphone, pretending to be God and telling Henry VIII what we thought of him. Some "angels" (probably armed for safety reasons), would then descend from the helicopter and carry Anne up to the heavens (AKA the 21st century via the helicopter). Anne, as a very intelligent woman, would no doubt be as fascinated by the 21st century as we would be with her. Surely, it's not just me?

EstoyRobandoSuCasa · 25/09/2026 21:24

Seeing the resurrection of Christ would be tricky if we've only got an hour. Some disciples didn't recognise Jesus after he rose from the dead, so clearly he looked quite different. I would like to see him pre-crucifixion, preaching to the crowds and then again once he had risen. Can we be sure they were the same person?

TheBayHorse · 25/09/2026 21:28

Any random day with my Mum before she developed dementia. Maybe when my DC were little so I could remember them at that time too.

Minasama · 25/09/2026 21:40

My wedding, or a Christmas Day at home with my parents and sister.

Didimum · 25/09/2026 21:43

The Titanic

Pre-WWii London.

Yes I would love to see that. As I’d only have an hour I think I’d go to the City as that would look very different to today.
