How do you deal with the anxiety taking your DC out as a learner driver?

I absolutely hate it! The lack of control, having to let him make decisions at busy roundabouts and junctions, I have sweaty hands and a racing heart the whole time until we are safely home! I know he needs to practise and he is actually pretty good, I do hide my fears pretty well but dear God. I was in a bad car crash earlier this year which hasn’t helped, I was a passenger and very lucky to walk away with minor injuries. Tell me your coping mechanisms everyone. Please!

Even if we had wanted to do it just by lessons it wasn't possible for DS to book a driving test at any of the three local centres used by his instructor, he had to go much further afield. Fortunately we were able to go to these test areas in my car for him to familiarise himself with the main junctions, tricky bits etc.

I only started letting mine practice with me once they'd got close to booking a test and we just paid the driving instructor for extra lessons. It's just not safe in a car without a second brake when they're still green. DH was slightly more patient and would take them into empty car parks last thing at night/early morning so they could practice reversing/parking.
