Do you have a biscuit tin?

DreamieWhat · 23/09/2026 02:46

Is that still a thing?

I remember having a biccie from my nans tin but it was a gamble on the being soft or stale.

I think I'd quite like some biccies in a tin.

Anyone got a recommendation for a decent one that keeps bourbons fresh?

We use a plastic Tupperware style box but also leave them in the packet

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 23/09/2026 09:09

We have two glass jars.

one for shop bought, one for homemade

professionalcommentreader · 23/09/2026 09:09

Yes I have an ecliptic mix of biscuit tin, cake tin, tea caddy and coffee caddy, non matching. Some people’s nightmare 😂

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 23/09/2026 09:10

Yes, but it's not a tin, it's an old Celebrations tub. There's another for cake.

OttersOnAPlane · 23/09/2026 09:13

I have 4 - one for shop bought treats like Club or Mini Rolls, one large enough to take banana muffins, one for regular biscuits or cookies I've baked (only happens every few weeks now the children are older) and a pretty one for taking to people when we visit and bring baked goods.

I have a glass jar from ikea and because it’s glass I can keep an eye on when it’s running low. It sits on its side and has a screw on metal lid. Perfect for biscuits.

MsRinky · 23/09/2026 09:25

Yes, I have a glass jar that says Disco Biscuits on it because I'm still not over the 90s.

TheoreticallyAdult · 23/09/2026 09:28

I make my own keto biscuits (long boring health related story) so keep them in a glass jar from Ikea. They don’t last long freshness wise because they’re not full of preservatives so we need to keep an eye on them 😂

Two? Why? Is there some kind of biscuit segregation?

Ginger biscuits need to be kept separate as they are aggressive and can taunt and mock other biscuits when the lid is closed.

If you don't believe me, put your ear to the tin and listen carefully. It can take upto 10 minutes, and you must keep absolutely still or else they will know.... They are called Ginger Nuts for a reason.

FrozenCharlottes · 23/09/2026 09:32

Yes we have a biscuit tin. Just a basic metal tin that came with a biscuit selection box several years ago.

We generally only have one packet of biscuits on the go at a time, so no issues with stale / soft biscuits. I think that’s really only an issue if the biscuits are left uneaten for too long!

We have
Biscuit Tin (usually digestives or shortbread, often bought, sometimes home made for use with a brew when friends and family pop in)
Cake Tin (sponge, madeira, ginger or fruit cake staple part of lunch or after dinner)
Sweet Tin (assorted mini chocolate or Haribo type treats, often left over from Christmas, easter or birthday stash after school treat if behavior warrants it)
Treat Tin (mini cheddars, or mini packets of biscuits party rings, jammie dodgers etc. that can be thrown into a bag for convenience on trips out)
Then we often have some mini banana breads, cookies, carrot cake muffins, rock cakes etc. in the freezer to be taken out in the morning before school for snack)
Bread Tin (with the remains of the sourdough made at the weekend for when someone needs extra sustenance)
Cracker Tin (because crackers and cheese are an excellent snack to fill up between meals)

We eat a lot of baked goods in our house, but also a lot is home made and with reduced/natural sugars and substituted whole meal flour. Baking is something DS and I share as a hobby. We also have two very fussy eaters who are exceedingly active (extra curricular sports 6 days a week) so I'm not too worried about their baked goods addiction.

Most of the tins are ones that shortbread came in at Christmas or from a set of stacking tins I was bought about 20 years ago!

SatinHeart · 23/09/2026 09:38

No - we don't regularly keep biscuits in the house because DH and I just eat them all.

beaglescurleduplikebagels · 23/09/2026 09:43

No. I grew up in a home where we never bought biscuits so they’re not really something I buy very often. Occasionally I’ll buy a packet or two but only a few times a year.

Sartre · 23/09/2026 09:45

No so we had one, I bought it because DC have a penchant for biscuits but once you open the pack they go stale quite quickly and I thought a tin was a solution. It was more of a biscuit barrel really than tin. What happened was the biscuits all got mixed up so if one DC wanted a bourbon they had to root through other biscuits before they reached one and those other biscuits got crushed. I then had them complaining about their biscuits being covered in crumbs from different biscuits etc. I got rid of it.

Mosaic123 · 23/09/2026 09:50

I use a rubbishy plastic box for unstarted biscuits and an airtight plastic box for the started ones.

People are supposed to eat from the started box first.

However I often buy individually wrapped biscuits, like KitKats, which never make it into the "started" box.

WherestheTrombolese · 23/09/2026 09:53

Yes, DH and the kids love biscuits.

Grin I was having a grumpy morning but that’s cheered me up no end!

Epoisses · 23/09/2026 09:55

No. Don't like them.

AFigureWalks · 23/09/2026 09:55

I’m looking at a cat vintage style biscuit tin on the Sous chef website- pricey at £30 but with biscuits in.
Or I like the look of the big “Dorset Knob” tin.

Nourishinghandcream · 23/09/2026 09:56

Biscuit jar.
Has a rubber seal and keeps biscuits fresh for ages (well, as long as they are not eaten first!).😆

Sillysausage76 · 23/09/2026 04:49

We have a glass jar

Ooh do you arrange your biscuits in like Dily Carter does on sort your life out!!

Happyher · 23/09/2026 09:57

No because I think if you put more than one type of biscuit in a tin they all end up tasting the same

Mydogisagentleman · 23/09/2026 09:58

Glass jar from Matalan.
Celebrations tube, upside down for cake
Jacobs crackers plastic box for savoury biscuits

Sunshinedahlias · 23/09/2026 03:23

Yes always use a biscuit tin. I have a Sara Miller one ( from John Lewis) and an Emma Bridgewater one ( for back up )

Is it the blue one? I have that one and use it for crackers. My other biscuit barrel has sweet biscuits that are safe for everyone in. Then we have various jars for different biscuits that have various allergens (dairy free, gluten free, cocoa free) so we have a whole shelf just for biscuits 🍪

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 23/09/2026 10:03

Yes but I took it from my nans house when she died. Before that they were just in the cupboard. I love having a biccie out of the same tin I she used to sneak me them out of (my mum was very opposed to us having anything sweet outside of pudding).
