Premier Inn - do we HAVE to get two rooms?

I’m thinking the answer is sadly yes, but want to make sure I’m not missing something.

Me, DH and DCs 15 and 17.

The DCs are too old for is all to be allowed to stay in one family room, aren’t they?

I’d book one room.

HoppingPavlova · 21/09/2026 12:36

How many beds in a family room? If 3 beds, then why not?

Because the website says children 0-15. My older DC is very clearly NOT 15!

Probably but doubt premier inn care, in the family rooms I’ve stayed in you get a double bed, sofa bed and then camp bed so if all tall people might not be super comfortable.

The only way it’ll come unstuck is if you all want breakfast as they do a deal where a paying adult gets x2 kids free breakfasts not sure you’ll get away with that with a 17 year old masquerading as a child.

BirdLandedonmyHead · 21/09/2026 12:39

Since its screens to check in, they probably wont notice if yiu book it as two adults and two children.

But the childrens beds might be a bit small if your children are tall. Plus its sometimes a King and a Double.

DisforDarkChocolate · 21/09/2026 12:40

I used travel lodge when there are 4 of us.

Mcdhotchoc · 21/09/2026 12:41

Lol. Just check in on line, or you go and check in without them.

PumpkinWanker · 21/09/2026 12:41

Only one adult needs to check in you don’t all need to be analysed at reception. Half the time now in premier inns there’s no one on reception all the time as they’re juggling other jobs so the rest of you just go in later once one of you has got the door cards.

I stayed in a family room in a PI in Coventry last week - never saw another soul the whole time we were there. Eerie.

I'm a bit of a 'seek forgiveness not permission' cheeky fucker so I'd wing it & be prepared to pay if I got caught.

Favouritefruits · 21/09/2026 12:47

One of the beds in the family rooms is a small single, my 12year old struggles to sleep in it. Unless you have very small kids I’d suggest two rooms. If you don’t mind the small bed boom the room. Nobody will care that the kids are older than 15, you won’t get stopped or anything.

Swissmeringue · 21/09/2026 12:51

You could totally get away with it, screen check in etc. But I'm not sure how comfortable the kids would be. My 8 year old was complaining about the crappy fold out bed and didn't sleep much last time we stayed in one (the daybed they made up that the 4 year old slept on was pretty comfy) so at 15 and 17 they might be uncomfortable.

One night won't kill them though...

MiddleAgedDread · 21/09/2026 12:51

This is an odd one because they define children as 15 and under but also don't let anyone under the age of 18 stay without an adult and they don't allow more than 2 adults per room so when you've got a 16-17yr old you're a bit screwed. So yes, I'd say you do need 2 rooms. I'd stick the kids in one room though and have the other for yourselves!

Yeah but they turn you away for your own room unless you are 18…my idiot son learned this the hard way when he was 17.

i would just change their ages on the booking.

SlipperyLizard · 21/09/2026 12:53

The fourth bed in a family room is tiny, so unless you have tiny teens I’d book two rooms!

KaleidoscopeSmile · 21/09/2026 13:05

I just love all of these thieving "public-spirited" twats on this thread encouraging people to shaft Premier Inn. Charming.

Jerrybalanitis · 21/09/2026 13:07

I dont understand why you wouldnt, for the sake of a hundred quid or less. Who wants to share a tiny room with their parents or grown up kids??

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 21/09/2026 13:09

Whoever's on reception really will not give a shit. Just don't all turn up at the front desk together.

Go check in, then go back out to "get the bags". Give your partner one key. You walk back in with one kid, a couple of minutes later your partner walks in with the other kid.

Within half an hour receptionist will have forgotten you exist and you can all wander past reception together with no issues.

PinkLemons99 · 21/09/2026 13:10

My 17yr old stayed with me in a family room. There were 2 beds.

clapalongnow · 21/09/2026 13:11

It never occurred to me to share a room when they were teens.

PumpkinWanker · 21/09/2026 13:11

@KaleidoscopeSmileIm happy to abide by most rules but if the room holds 4 humans what is the difference in the size and ages of the humans. It’s still 4 people using the bathroom and sleeping in the beds if you have 2 adults and 2 dc versus 3 adults and 1 dc as long as one of them is happy to be a little cramped.

If you leave the breakfast out of it then what is the issue?

bababamama · 21/09/2026 13:13

I stay in a family room with my two adult DD’s, nobody says a thing. We aren’t blatant, as in only I go to the check in, last 2 times it’s been a screen check in anyway

CarTrap · 21/09/2026 13:13

Yes, my DC found the fold out or sofa beds too uncomfortable once they hit their teens. I usuallt put an adult and a child in each room (on the booking form) and then have the DC in together and us on our own.

bababamama · 21/09/2026 13:14

@Jerrybalanitis

because it’s £100! (Or more) if it’s just my 2 dds and I we share

MrsMoastyToasty · 21/09/2026 13:17

They do have a small amount of interconnected rooms at some of their hotels, but from memory you have to ring head office.
My DS is a young adult with additional needs. Although he doesn't need to be in with us he needs to be close.
At nearly 6ft tall he finds the single bed in a family room too short.

Rfriendselectric · 21/09/2026 13:18

No problem in Premier Inn. We use another hotel chain that says we need 2nd room if child is over 12. He’s been 11 for three years now. When I rang reception previously they said they don’t care, its centralised booking that has issue.
