How do I make office area (desk) in house nicer?

Which office chair can I have in my house? My kids have stolen by swivelly one but I needed an upgrade anyway.

While I am at it, I never use the area for study. It has a desk, built in cupboards and a bookshelf in a sort of cove in a corner of an open plan kitchen/dining/conservatory area. I have patio doors and a piano behind me.

It’s an antique desk covered in papers, I will file them away. It’s an awkward corner but could be useful. How do I make it appealing? It just faces a wall.

wbat do you have in your study to make it look & feel more appealing?

I have a v good ergonomic chair (aeron) and a pinboard of nice photos and a decent lamp. Also a good dual monitor setup for my laptop so I can work well. And a messy stack of papers that I need to sort out and various books etc.

What exactly is the problem you want to fix? Do you want to be able to work there but can’t? Do you secretly loathe the antique desk which is ruining the vibe of the room?

We have a desk facing a wall like this. I use it daily as i wfh. I designed it to have a huge desk surface since I love to have space for a plant, a full size monitor. I used a wooden kitchen tabletop spanning the cove, supported by two kitchen island legs. I installed built-under and built-over office cupboard for filing. Above the desk, some shelving to take books and ornaments. We have lighting under the shelves to give good light for work but also a gorgeous lamp for a nice glow if I’m working late. Decent usb outlets on the desk. All the cables are tidied away under the desk. It’s super practical and never untidy. Desk chair was expensive and picked for comfort not style to be honest!

Thank you! Can I ask where you bought your chair from? I just thought that I need a decent lamp. It needs to be a comfier spot.

Hello, thanks for asking this. I think I want to make it more appealing. I find myself working on the sofa or at the kitchen table. I wonder if the antique desk is making the corner too dark & depressing, and facing the wall is too boring. Maybe I need a mirrored back (like a splash back) which would reflect my garden? I tried putting a plant on there but I’m swamped by the massive piano behind me. Yes I know, the solution is to get rid of the piano & make more space but I can’t while my youngest is still having lessons. Hmm maybe I should switch desks with one of the others, though.

Where is your desk chair from? Agree, I need to invest!

My desk faces the wall but I have prints of some of my favourite paintings on the wall which always make me happy. I have a pretty lamp too although I try not to have too much else on there. In terms of chairs, I have a nice blue wicker dining chair which is not ergonomic but looks nice.

Thanks for ideas, @mynameiscalypso I have been looking at lamps this afternoon. I think I might shift the house around a bit. I have a lovely little mirrored lamp which would prob make the corner à bit cosier. Love the idea of paintings. The wall is broken up by a bookshelf about half way up and cupboards on top but maybe I can frame some prints.
