Do you want to fall in love again?

If you're single, happily single, would you be pleased if you met someone and fell in love?

I've had 3 LTR and although there is someone I like, I feel horror at the thought of falling in love again.

While I do remember being in love as heady and exciting, I also remember it as a time of madness and being out of control. So really don't want to experience it again.

Absolutely not at my age. All the single men will be the dregs, the ones whose menopausal ex wives have woken up and kicked them out after years of being taken for granted.

What you're describing sounds like limerance. "Madness and being out of control" aren't my experiences of what love is...?

I fall in love a bit too easily. I’m very very picky when it comes to starting things, but when the feeling is there, I’m happy to go with it. Separated 12 years, and a long time on my own, but I’m an old romantic at heart. Fell in love seven years ago, it didn’t work out after lurching to the realisation that he didn’t mean what he said, and I nursed my poor old heart for a long time. At the ripe old age of 55, I’m thrilled to be in a lovely loving new relationship.

LottieMeDownAgain · 20/09/2026 02:56

Not really. At 51 I feel I have had enough of my life derailed by love. I expect that the only love I will experience going forward is that for myself and my own ambitions and interests and health.

plus kids, pets and friends

Crazycockerpoo · 20/09/2026 02:59

No I can't see me being in love ever again. I would be (I think) quite happy to have a fwb, someone for company and sex and step out of relationships for good . I miss the emotional and physical intimacy but nothing else that comes with it. I honestly don't feel like I want to open myself up again , as I'm getting older and been on my own now for a number of years I don't feel as needy for that any more. Altho I miss sex and the intimacy quite a lot.

PyongyangKipperbang · 20/09/2026 03:22

Absolutely not.

I am alone but I am not lonely. I actively avoid men I feel any sort of connection with because the compromises are not worth it. Also, ime the compromises only ever seem to go one way.

ETA I also remember it as a time of madness and being out of control. So really don't want to experience it again. YY to this. Perhaps it a personality thing, but I do seem to lose my mind when I fall for someone, like nothing else matters. I never want to experience that again either.

I’m not single, but if I were to become so I’m too old and jaded to be capable of falling in love again even if I wanted to. I’ve gone through the menopausal looking glass to a world where all the men are boring slobby old gits, desperate for someone to clean up after them and listen to them whinge.

Fortunately, I’m no oil painting myself, so I won’t need to worry about fighting off slobby old suitors.

No, not settled, deep, permanent love. But the first couple of years when it's super passionate, and all you want is to be with the supposed perfect person you've found.

Oh I love this!! Me too. And no, not fighting them off, but men even older than me (soon there won't be any older than me because I'm ancient!) do still look at me and clearly think 'She might still be able to do the dishes and cook and wash me smalls'.

I also thank the menopause for the xray vision of men I have now. Wish I'd had it at 20!

I would like to fall in love again, but I don't think it is very likely at my age.

Brendayouknowthatyouremuchtoolazy · 20/09/2026 08:29

I've been single for over 15 years. I have no interest in falling in love or having a relationship, I don't see the point. I've had lots of fabulous sex, several fabulous relationships, and was married. I feel that I've done all that and don't see any reason to go there again, this is a different era for me now and I'm very happy with it.

willhetalk · 20/09/2026 08:36

Yes I would like to - if the person was genuinely kind and there was an attraction.

I have had the one bad relationship (my marriage) and it would be nice to experience a truly loving one.

However I don’t see this happening.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 20/09/2026 08:45

I suppose it would be nice. I would like to be desired again.
However, I'm a single parent in a one bed council flat, my body is like a melted candle, and I really couldn't be doing with someone in my personal space talking to me all the time, so it's HIGHLY unlikely to happen.

How /where did you meet. I’m 53 and thinking about dating after divorce

PickFlowersNotFights · 20/09/2026 08:48

I said I didn’t and then after 6 years single decided to dip my toe into possibly finding something. 18 months later and I’m very happy to be in love with a lovely man (they aren’t ALL arseholes, although many are based on friends experiences…)

Brightbluesomething · 20/09/2026 10:47

My life is far too busy for this at the moment. I’m also not sure I’ve got the energy for a man child, however they pretend they’re not at the start to hook you in.
I might change my mind but he’d have to make my (already good) life significantly better, and most don’t.

FinallyHere · 20/09/2026 15:35

After the long years of his illness and pain, I’m perfectly happy single. I do however find myself missing human touch. I guess that’s why many people get pets.
