As in we will always be together in our dreams

Yes, it's a great song

hewasflirtingwithbeverleymacca · 19/09/2026 23:41

Absolutely!

EverybodyLTB · 19/09/2026 23:43

Yes!

BrezhnevsLuxuriantEyebrows · 19/09/2026 23:43

It's not specifically funeral-themed - which is probably not a bad thing, really - but it's certainly not 'unfortunate' or 'inappropriate' for that occasion. The 'together' bit is a nice sentiment too.

If the person whose funeral it is loves/loved the song, that's more than enough reason to play it at their funeral; it 100% falls in the category of 'it's what they would have wanted'!

HugoThatway · 19/09/2026 23:46

Not as good as the theme from Minder.

DemonsRocks · 19/09/2026 23:47

Together In Electric Dreams was played at a friend's funeral. It was perfect for him as he was so into his music.

seahorsessky · 20/09/2026 00:34

If it's meaningful to the person or their loved ones, yes. People have all kinds of songs now.

CrazyMidget · 20/09/2026 02:01

As long as it’s not in a church. Don’t think churches allow pop songs.

A lot of churches are much more flexible now. They happily let us have Gracie Fields and Barbra Streisand (as well as Abide With Me) at my DGM's funeral at the parish church.

I mean, I probably wouldn't push it and ask for anything by Cradle of Filth or I'm Too Sexy; but many won't have any objection to most 'ordinary' inoffensive pop songs.

HappiestSleeping · 20/09/2026 08:53

I want Status Quo "Down Down" played at my burial.

ETA - it's what is relevant to the person that's important.

happyjack12 · 20/09/2026 08:54

Its my chosen Funeral song! Then my ashes are going up in a firework 😀

ChaToilLeam · 20/09/2026 08:55

If it's a song the person liked, then go right on! My friend had "Going Underground" by the Jam at hers. Not sure the vicar approved of that one, his face was a picture.

BrezhnevsLuxuriantEyebrows · 20/09/2026 09:04

A lot of people also choose Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life - and even if the bowdlerised 'piece of spit' version is used, you'll inevitably get a few people singing along and using the rude word - often quite pointedly.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 20/09/2026 09:09

Depends on the relationship, the first verse wouldn’t suit for a couple who had been together years for example. But I doubt anyone would look that forensically in to the lyrics.

ifonly4 · 20/09/2026 09:12

If it's something you would like for your own funeral, or you feel it's right for one you're planning, then yes have it.

bababamama · 20/09/2026 09:15

@CrazyMidget

as long as the church has a suitable sound system, most do allow secular music but generally you need to supply the track and lyrics for approval (I check them through for my church) we wouldn’t allow offensive lyrics, devil/satantic references or anti Christian lyrics. We had bring me sunshine 2 weeks ago and match of the day theme several times.

x2boys · 20/09/2026 10:38

You can have anything you want at a funeral ( wwlll within reason)
We had Dancing Queen at my mums funeral.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 20/09/2026 10:41

Saturday Night by Whigfield was played as my cousin's coffin was lowered. Raised a few eyebrows but took me back to the best times we had together.

And to answer your question, sorry. Yes I think Electric Dreams is a good choice for a funeral song.

hewasflirtingwithbeverleymacca · 20/09/2026 11:57

I want Ashes to Ashes playing at my funeral. It’s one of my all time favourite songs, plus it’ll be perfect for a cremation

hewasflirtingwithbeverleymacca · 20/09/2026 11:58

Just to add, it is whatever the deceased would want playing. But yes, Electric Dreams is perfect.

trockodile · 20/09/2026 12:01

Yes, I like it. I heard this at a funeral which was really poignant. https://genius.com/The-beautiful-south-dream-a-little-dream-of-me-lyrics
I can’t decide if i would want a service, but if i did i would want it played.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 20/09/2026 12:10

It's also a happy, joyful tune - and a piece of music that makes people smile through tears with the 'We'll always be together, however far it seems (Love never ends), We'll always be together, together in Electric Dreams' seems perfect to me.

HugoThatway · 20/09/2026 12:52
about 40 minutes in.

If I were to be cremated, I'd have Bruce Springsteen "I'm on Fire".

Namechangedforspooky · 20/09/2026 13:47

I want Burn baby burn at mine
