TK Maxx security tag glue has ruined bedding

I've just opened it to put it wash before use and they have stuck a sticky security tag to the actual material. The plastic front has come off leaving the metal strip and glue behind on the cotton. When I try and pull the metal strip off the threads are coming apart, like its going to rip.

I checked the 2nd bedding item and they have done the same to that too.

It would cost me more in taxis to return them than the bedding is worth.

Am feeling really annoyed. Why on earth would they stick glue to cotton? Why not stick it on the plastic or carboard packaging?!

Is there a way to remove glue from cotton? (But if it doesn't work they absolutely wouldnt accept it as a return will they)

Oh Otterliee what a shame.

Friend of mine bought a cardigan last month but somehow the security 'disc' was not removed and my friend could not remove it as it needs a special tool (magnetic as she later found out). Anyway she took it back to the store next day and set the alarm off when walking in and a security guard jumped on her back. Long story short she is going for a drink with him on Tuesday, I'll keep you posted on how she gets on.

That's daft, can you try heating it with a hairdryer

I recently bought bedding from tk maxx (Christy brand, if that’s relevant) and there were several tears in the sheet. Each was about 1 inch long and it was as though the sheet was folded together and then somehow cut through a few layers at once, so that when opened out the tears were alll separate and spread apart.

Abyway… very frustrating but I just decided not to bother to try to return it as I’d thrown away packaging already and it’s not particularly close and I had two kids in tow (summer holidays) and I just couldn’t bother with the hassle. Really annoying though ! So you have my sympathies

Take photos and email them to complain and explain it would cost you to return and they'll probably just refund you without you having to return them.

Do they have a social media customer services contact? When something like this has gone wrong with other shops I have been able to contact them through WhatsApp or Facebook messenger and sent them photos and received a refund without having to go back to the shop

That doesn't sound like a very sensible plan. Many security guards are extremely dodgy characters.

ETA Doh! 🤦

I would get a bucket or bowl of hot water and soak the bit of bedding with the security tag in it. The water should soften the glue and allow it to come off.

Wtf 😂😂

The glue will probably dissolve when you wash the bedding, especially if you wash it on a 60° wash.
