Foodie / novelty Advent Calendars for DH and DS (14)

Posting here for traffic rather than in the Christmas section.

I am not the biggest fan of Christmas but I do like an advent to brighten up December and get a nice advent for either DH and DS to share, or one each for them.

Previously I went all out and got a super deluxe one from Melt chocolate, and I also got a smaller (but beautiful looking) chocolate one from Harrods last year. I am thinking of continuing the food theme this year and wondered if anyone had any suggestions I may not have seen or thought of as yet.

I did look at the Degusta one which looked as if it could be potentially interesting, until I saw an Insta post where someone was opening drawers and producing things like cans of Heinz soup!

An eclectic mix would be wonderful, although I am happy for it to be just one brand / type if it looks good and is reasonable value (as much as these things can be, of course.) Tea / cheese / whiskey (this would obviously be DH rather than DS!) are out.

Budget is up to £150, don't mind if it's one each or one between them.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Paxton & Whitfield? We’ve had it a couple of times, was good fun for all of us.

The M&S food hall advent calendar looks good and is £100

Not heard of Paxton and Whitfield, and nor did I know M&S did one - looking at both now, thank you!

Oooh… Sounds nice! I like their chocolate one.

Ah, P&W is cheese which doesn't work for DS. The M&S is a potential though.

That M&S one looks amazing! I’m very tempted.

OP, we’ve had Degusta several times. It’s great fun - sometimes you get a tin of soup, other days it’s a box of bojangles chocs. We get one for the family and take it turns to open each day. For the price (about £35), I’d recommend it.

I had a Bonne Maman jam one last year. Lots of little jars of interesting flavoured jams and a Christmas decoration in door 24. However I did end up buying a lot of frozen croissants to enjoy with my jam.

Off to look at the M&S Food Hall one....

Gazelda, that's interesting. I might need to revisit that option. It's hard to properly decide as they don't publish the contents.

The M&S looks good but there are quite a few things I am not sure they'd be fussed about. I know there is always some 'misses' with these things but I want to keep it as low as possible. I can't decide.

I have also seen this one which could be a potential if anyone else is looking for ideas Foda I am a bit hesitant if it's a place I have never heard of though, which is probably stupid and illogical I know.

Unfortunately neither of them do, but thank you for posting!

I have also considered a DIY one but I am sorry to say I really can't be arsed - I've done so many DIY type things before that I know from experience I get carried away and it becomes far more expensive and complicated than it should be, and this year I have too much on as it is. Hence, looking at shops...

Could you make one? I did for DP a couple of years back - 24 paper bags with random stuff (could be food, could not be) in each.

X-posted. I don't think it needs to be complicated at all. You can get everything for inside from B&M, festive looking paper bags in eBay.

I'd say my DIY one cost about £50 max.

@FreddieFruitCake we cross posted!

I just took in my Bonne Maman one from Ocado. I’ve wanted this for years and the cheaper (28) price swung it for me.

Gazelda · 19/09/2026 10:02

i got the Bonne maman one for DD last year. She loved it. Some of the flavours were fabulous! It was a real hit.

Bjorkdidit · 19/09/2026 12:12

I also loved my Bonne Maman advent calendar a lot more than I expected last year and it's going to take some determination to not buy another one especially if I see it again in Costco for £20. We don't really use a lot of jam and I still have a couple left as well as a free jar due to Waitrose little treats.

I got that for my mum last year. She loved it, thinking of doing the same again this year for her and DS

I think i paid £26 last year from Waitrose, ocado was £28.
