Air to air heat pump - advice please

We’re looking into getting one of these installed, to do heating in the winter and A/C in the summer.

Any advice on pitfalls to avoid / the process in general? Have you been happy with how yours has worked?

Also - all the local firms we can find (SW London) are charging £250 just to give a quote. Is this normal?! DH thinks this is excessive, but maybe that’s just how the market is right now?

I think the fee is because they need to do a heat loss survey so it’s a bit more work than a regular quote. £250 for a heat loss survey is pretty standard I think. It’s a bit less up here but I’m in Sheffield. I think they often use independent companies to do the surveys anyway so you could pay for one then ask other firms to quote off that survey?

we don’t have air to air - I didn’t want the units in our formal rooms downstairs (the house is Victorian) so we’ve gone air to water with UFH. we’ve got some service voids upstairs to fit separate ducted air con in the bedrooms.

We have 2 units, one in our conservatory and one in the master bedroom. Very happy with them. We found that running the upstairs one, leaving doors open and putting a fan in the bedroom doorway facing out, helped to cool the whole house during the heatwaves. Only regret is that we fitted an outside unit for the downstairs heat pump that would only run one inside unit. With hindsight I would have had both run with a single outside unit.
