Anyone work in NHS HR or recently had a NHS promotion?

I have recently started work in the nhs and there is a promotion available in my department the next band up. When someone else in my department got promoted, the manger casually mentioned they could start their new higher role once all “the checks had been completed/passed”
Can anyone tell me what checks they do when moving between bands within NHS? It’s a non-clinical role
Thanks

Some Trusts do references, DBS checks etc even when someone is getting another job in the same organisation.

We don’t have promotion as such - you can apply for another role at a higher banding but you still have to formally apply for the advertised role and be interviewed etc. They still check all the paperwork (and HR grind through painfully slowly IME).

Thanks
Thats what I was wondering - what paperwork etc do they check?
And by references, is it your current (NHS) management that give that or do they go back again to your references from before you joined the organisation?

If it's anything like the Civil Service, they treat you exactly the same as if you're a brand new employee. I've worked for the same organisation for over 30 years and last time I was promoted, I had to give my line manager and department head as referees and show them my passport and driving licence, to prove that I had the right to work in the UK. I don't know what they'd have done if it had suddenly come to light that they'd been employing me illegally since the 1990s.
