I'm always logged in on my phone. I tried to get on my laptop earlier and brain fog has attacked and I can't remember the password.

Is it easy to reset or will I have a fight on my hands? I use it every day on my phone and i daren't risk losing it....

Do you have a password manager like Google?

musicalfrog · 18/09/2026 14:36

That sounds rather technical so no! Haha

Should I have?

It is easy to reset (if you have things set up ready)

It might not actually need the password to be reset if you have your phone handy - it may allow you to approve the laptop login

Otherwise it’s not generally hard to reset as long as you have access to the email / phone number to send the reset

Even if you do reset the password you might not need to change on your phone - it could ask whether you want to “log out of other devices”
If you don’t “log out other devices” then your phone remains active, if you do “log out other devices” then you will then need to log back in to your phone with the new password

When it’s just you trying to remember the password to log into another device then you can leave everything else active l, but if you want to change and protect access then do “log out of other devices”

I know a few people who’ve been locked out of FB and never got back in. Always write your FB password down somewhere - seems like it’s one of the worst and most frustrating for account recovery. Good luck (and please let us know if you find the magic fix as it might help someone else!)

The benefit of password managers is that they “remember”’ your passwords for you, an ideally automatically pick the right password for each site

Yoy just need to remember the one password (or have your fingerprint / face ready to enable the password manager

Surely the passwords app on your phone has it?

Top tip for passwords - take a screenshot and put it in a hidden album in your photo gallery 😉

Easy to reset - I’m quite good at changing my passwords to increase security and never had a problem changing Facebook password 🤷‍♀️

Even if you don't have the old one?

Do you not keep a little notebook full of all your scribbled usernames and passwords....
