What would you do with this package?

So I ordered something weeks ago and there was an issue with delivery (delivery company had no record of receiving it from retailer). Managed to speak to someone and they said the parcel was likely lost and gave me a refund.

three weeks later it has turned up so I thought I would send it back to them and would ask for a postal slip. Received an email saying delivered and I can’t return online as it’s showing as order cancelled.

Only contact on the website is an AI assistant or WhatsApp - the WhatsApp is ignored. Called their customer services and I’m stuck with an AI agent that doesn’t understand me and won’t put me through to a human (30 mins later I hung up).

so what do I do? I don’t want the goods because I bought something else in the meantime and I don’t really want to try and find one of their shops and spend hours of my weekend physically returning it!

so in these circumstances, what do people do?

I would keep it and sell it on Vinted if I didn't want it anymore

BeardySchnauzer · 18/09/2026 10:25

I feel like a thief! Maybe I’ll give it to the charity shop

This has happened to me a couple of times Amazon are the worst for it, you did what you could, keep the "thing" .

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 18/09/2026 10:32

You have tried your best. If you don't want it, pass it on to someone else, school raffle prizes, sell it (depending what it is!). There was some kind of communication error on their end, not your problem.

Lomonald · 18/09/2026 10:34

Do you like the thing ?

BeardySchnauzer · 18/09/2026 10:35

It’s just a pair of trousers! That don’t fit.

Edited

I once had an Amazon order that was delayed by about a week, no big deal. They refunded me (I didn't request this) and the parcel arrived fine a few days later. I messaged customer service, they didn't even respond!

Yeah they are not bothered, I think once it is in transit it is "out of their hands" so it is a hassle.

I think it depends partly on what/how expensive it is. When this has happened to me with relatively inexpensive items I've always been told to keep them, presumably because the restocking costs are higher than the item's value. For something more expensive I'd email or send a tracked letter saying I intended to dispose of it if I didn't hear from them withing 14 days.

No email address and I’m not spending money on tracking a letter!

You have sent a WhatsApp according to their website suggestion

send one more - if I don’t hear back within 6 weeks I will assume it’s mine

BeardySchnauzer · 18/09/2026 10:52

The amount of time trying to get past the AI assistant to an actual person is painful!!

will give them one last chance on whatsapp

its £100 worth

I did have this with Next once but they had a pre paid postal slip in the package so that was easy

i actually tried the trousers on in shop the other day (hence knowing they won’t fit) and the staff were pretty unpleasant so it’s not a company I will be rushing back to

In contrast I bought a £3.80 item ( private seller
via Amazon ) which didn’t arrive ,
so was refunded after several emails.
Then seller messaged me several weeks later asking had I received ,
I said didn’t know as was on holiday, then they messaged again a further 2 week later , it had arrived but honestly I ignored it , as what a palava for a £3.80 battery for my kitchen scales !

Update - the WhatsApp managed to find a human who sent me a QR code to send it back. So now I just need to take time out of my day to go to the post office

am getting really irritated buying online these days. Another retailer to add to my do not shop with list (Boden was the last one!)
