If you’ve had a robot mop AND a robot vacuum…

What do you think? How do they compare?

I’ve had a robo-vacuum for a few years, a medium-good one. It’s not a replacement for actually vacuuming myself but it is great at keeping on top of low level stuff, busy household (but no pets) I find if I send the robot round every day, and hoover properly once a week myself, the place stays looking ok.

Mine is coming to the end of its life and I’m looking to replace, should I get one that mops? I really want it to be amazing, I hate moping! I keep reading about how the moping ones are a bit rubbish at vacuuming but… how much more rubbish than the usual ones is that? Are those reviews mainly from people who have never had a robovacuum before to compare?

If you’ve had both: vac only and mop/vac how do they compare please??

I’ve got both. I don’t like our mopping robot hoover but that’s mainly because of the way it’s programmed. It only cleans in straight lines whereas our hoover only robot does a random pattern.

the mop does a reasonable job of wiping the floor. That’s all it is, just a wipe with a damp cloth essentially.

I am thinking of getting another one, one of the ones that refreshes the water and empties itself.

Yes the ones with a storage area so you only have to empty once a month or something is what I’m looking at. They all hoover as well - does yours only mop? But yes, good reality check that’s it’s just a damp cloth really.

I have the eufy vac and mop and find it very good. I have to refill and empty the water tanks in the base station maybe twice a week. I like that it sends me alerts to let me know whatever it needs eg water tank empty, dust bags full.
I never pull out the proper hoover in the rooms this is in tbh.

I don't use the mop. I feel like its just a wet microfiber cloth being dragged around and doesn't do the job properly.

My hoover is a mop too but I just use the hoover function twice a day (lots of pet hair)

I bought a shark spinning steamer mop thing instead and love it. Its actually quite fun to mop with it 🤣

I love my robovac and convinced myself I needed the mopping one, so Eufy 1 could move upstairs.

The more modern, upgraded one is fantastic, empties itself 😮, and does a great job as a vacuum, I actually very rarely vacuum "properly", but unless I'm doing it wrong, I don't find the mop helpful. It just seems to move dirty water around.

i have the eufy mop and hoover all in one - it is fantastic. does it's little circuit every night at 8. Never need to hoover or mop downstairs at all now.

Does it have a separate dirty water tank? I have a mix of hard floors, rugs and feel unless you have an open floor minimalistic set-up, it would get stuck!

notanothernamesurely · 18/09/2026 10:56

Mine does both but I never use the mop - it just seemed to make wet lines and not really get the floor clean.

yes clean water, dirty water tank and then a dust bag. Water empty and change weekly maybe. New dust bag every 2 months.

It detects rugs and lifts the mops on those areas and switches to just hoover. Is v clever.

@Midseptemberwoes and @Shadesofscarlett which Eufy mop/vac do you have please? My current (old) vac is a eufy and it’s worked well for 5 or more years so far so would be interested in an upgraded version.

Sounds fairly positive thanks everyone, if the mop bit isn’t fantastic then that’s one thing, it’s sort of an experiment anyway to see how well it works, but I would be very disappointed if the vac bit was rubbish compared to my current one.

We got one last year which mops as well. I don't think the hoover function is any worse than one without a mop, it seems the same. I am not convinced the mop function is really worth it, though, because it's basically impossible for it to do anything other than gently swipe a cold, dirty cloth over the floor, which to me feels like it's just spreading germs around more than cleaning. I suppose perhaps if you really perfectly mopped the floor to within an inch of its life before running it for the first time and then ran it religiously every day and get several spare mop pads and keep swapping them??

But basically the cloths are tiny, if you were using one yourself you'd use a much bigger one (or if you think of the surface area of a mop for example) and keep folding it over or at the very least, rinse it out. the one we have, all the water stuff is held at the base, which I think is standard because I don't think it would be practical for the vacuum itself to hold water. You can add cleaning solution to the clean water side, which we did originally but their own cleaning solution is so overpriced and is basically just standard floor cleaner anyway, so we switched to sticking some Dettol stuff in it, which works just the same. It does get clogged up with limescale easily (which DH attributes to the non-branded cleaning stuff and sometimes runs it without soap) and I CBA to fill it with distilled water. I don't know if it heats the water it uses to clean the pads but it would be completely pointless, because as soon as it's travelled 30 seconds away from the base, the pads will be cold again. If you think of how often you rinse out a mop or even just a cleaning rag, it's impractical when it can only do this at the base, so it just keeps using the same dirty pad for 20 mins or more before going back to the base to clean it. They usually only come with one set of mop pads, so I can only assume you're meant to leave them on through multiple washes. We did get a set of replacements and I try to remember to swap them out but if it's up to DH he only swaps them once every few weeks 🤢

It just seems a lot more needy than the ones we've had which were just vacuums. Those would get stuck occasionally and the sensors would get dirty so it couldn't dock properly but that was it. The addition of water seems to make it much more disgusting and introduce a whole load of other issues. Is our floor marginally cleaner than us never really bothering to mop it?? Maybe? I don't feel like our floor is noticeably dirty or anything, but I just know if I was mopping myself, I would not take a miniscule cloth, a cleaning spray and keep using that for 20 minutes, then rinse it in cold water, repeat, and then leave the same cloth to use tomorrow. Because that is disgusting and not clean.

Plus, when you empty the dirty water it stinks like something unholy, and there is always something gloopy growing in it - I tend to flush the contents down the toilet and chase it with loo cleaner otherwise it completely stinks out the entire house for ages, then scrub out the dirty container, but again, DH will just stick the empty (not clean) container back into the machine. I don't think it cross contaminates, but still.
