Panic attacks and hot flushes after Botox?

Bit of an odd one: I had my first Botox for migraines a couple of weeks ago. Had about 15 jabs in my face and neck. Since then I’ve been having panic attacks, what feel like hot flushes (neck feels hot and sweaty, I feel unwell), and my moods are all over the shop. Has anyone else experienced this after Botox? Or is it just very coincidental start of perimenopause mood swings? I’m shattered honestly and didn’t expect this at all.

It’s not systemic and not a mood altering drug. However it can affect flushing and sweating locally (usually reduces it).

I had anxiety immediately after my first Botox, but that was just adrenaline. Maybe ask Google?

Have your winkles improved?
I've often wondered if the treating of migraines is a different kind of Botox?

This round is my second of botox iv gone forehead and 11s.

iv noticed flu like symptoms both times which are rather unpleasant. I did say id never do it again but here we are, and the results are worth it. It temp impacts my swallowing but think its anxiety as you say.

Thanks all. I’ve had it done for migraines so not the same places as cosmetic Botox, it’s given in my hairline (front and back) and into the muscle in the back of my neck 😬

It’s been nearly two weeks and the anxiety and sweating seem to be nearly over, thankfully. It does make me wonder if it is a side effect. I’ll have to ask the neurologist the next time I see him and try to remember to update the thread!

I had it for a few years but never had any of the issues you're describing.

I'm considering going private for it for a couple of months as I'm struggling with migraine-related neck pain again which the botox cured for years even after the treatment ended.

I'm now on CGRP injections.

Anxiety response after Botox has been reported following both cosmetic and medical Botox but it doesn’t appear to be common

HeadacheCate · 21/09/2026 18:44

@GreenFootstool thank you, I hope you can get some relief. I had quite a sore and stiff neck in the days following the injection but it evened out after a week or so.

@TheOliveFinch yhank you, yes, I was able to find a couple of posts on Reddit reporting anxiety after Botox but that site always seems less trustworthy to me? Whatever it was, it does seem to have gotten better. Although it also felt (I think) much like some of my friends experience who are closer to menopause than I am.

@HeadacheCate the drugs.com website includes people’s experience with all drugs and on there 3.7% reported anxiety. Glad things are improving

Thank you, I hadn't seen that, I reckon it was just a rare and unpleasant side effect. Good to know for the next round!
