Sea swimming in Naples in October

I sea swim all year in Ireland, and am thinking of a trip to Italy at mid term where I could swim. By the sea obviously, but preferably also in a town or city. Naples would be my ideal this year. I have done this in Spain in November previously. Obviously the locals think I am bonkers but this does not bother me at all. Are there parts of Naples with swimmable beaches? I have never been. I would do normal tourist stuff too e.g day trip to Pompeii. Don't want to drive though. Any ideas? Open to other parts of Italy too though.

Lots of swimmable beaches in Naples. I don't love the town though- it's really chaotic and grubby. There are much nicer places to stay further down the coast.

Accessible by car? Also, I'm not often very bothered by grubby if it's just normal city living. I hate pristine touristy resorts though

That should say - accessible by public transport? And thank you for responding.

Naples is one of my favourite cities, I love it ! I’ve never really paid much attention to the sea when I’ve been there though, apart from walking along the front which was very rocky and probably not swimable.

The whole area has great transport though.

I live in central London and I found central Naples really polluted and unmellow. Just one person's opinion though.

It has great public transport so that aspect should be fine.

I hated Naples found it dirty and grubby. We were staying in Sorrento and took the train down. Wish we'd saved our money and visited somewhere else. Lots more nicer places in Italy to visit.

Pizzo Calabro / short and scenic train ride from Lamezia airport - cheap flights from Stansted on Ryanair. Fab lovely town and water will definitely still be warm in October.
Amazing sunsets over Stromboli volcano on the horizon.

Naples is a sprawling city and it has some fantastic neighbourhoods as well as some less charming places. We stayed in the Centro Storico (historic centre) and can recommend it highly. The area is a UNESCO world heritage site and is full of bustling narrow streets and some amazing architecture. Little street food places will sell you the best pizzas you'll ever have at bargain prices. There's a fantastic array of bars and restaurants within easy reach of anywhere you stay in that neighbourhood. I tend to think that people who didn't enjoy Naples just stayed in the wrong area.

I know from previous Mumsnet threads that Naples is very divisive. I think I'd like it though. I like a city and I like a buzz.

We went in mid November last year we didn't go anywhere near the sea but chatted to an English chap at the airport about how were were in jeans and t-shirts while the natives were in puffa coats/ woolen over coats and he said he had been swimming in the sea every day. I loved Naples and Pompeii/ Herculaneum were fantastic. I imagine they would be less wonderful in summer heat with summer crowds.

The young ladies on vespas carrying a tray of drinks while wearing long cream cashmere coats were quite the sight!
