I've just been to a playgroup for middle aged women

😆

Wild Women, it was called, an outdoor session at my local nature reserve. Not really restricted to the middle aged but we all were.

A lovely 2.5 hours collecting leaves and other treasures and making pictures and then some weaving thing, just the kinds of things we used to do at play group.

Really therapeutic 🙂

Yes! I’ve done one of these, a kind of adult forest school (or as my husband calls it, witchy club). It makes me feel a lot better!

This sounds fab, I’d love to go to something similar. Playgroup though 😂 Did you take your finds home for the nature table?

Cotopaxi · 16/09/2026 14:47

Wonderful!

Ladybird69 · 16/09/2026 15:28

Ooo I’d love to go to a playgroup and play with all the toys and do a bit of craft, then go outside and play on the swings and slide. 😁

Seagulldancing · 16/09/2026 15:30

I did something like this. We all held hands in a circle round a tree and sang it a song. It sounds crazy but it was lovely.

TheOliveFinch · 16/09/2026 15:32

You need to show and tell 🤣

How perfect!

GustyGertie · 16/09/2026 15:57

Was it expensive? Sounds relaxing.

There's one near me. It would be my worst nightmare, all that at one with nature and woo. Bonus horror if there's singing and hugging.

seahorsessky · 16/09/2026 16:06

I thought you meant a playgroup only for mums of a certain age, and was going to say I'd never been asked for my age at any of the toddler groups I went to!

I've seen advertised locally lately, not my cup of tea but it might be someone's

Can see the allure of this. Good for u.

AltitudeCheck · 16/09/2026 16:09

Oh, is this in Lincolnshire? I'm wondering if it's the one I keep seeing on Facebook. Did you have to do some conservation work or was it all play time?

CuteHANDBAG · 16/09/2026 16:10

£90 - there must be similar free events. I couldn’t bring myself to pay for that. Nice little earner though…

Longleaf · 16/09/2026 23:15

This one is once a month and £12 per sessions

We don't do any work on the reserve. When there isn't a fire ban there is a fire and marshmallows or toasted teacakes. Activities are based around the seasons, you usually learn something, there's something crafty, the people are nice but it's not high pressure socialising because for a lot of the time you're absorbed in your own project.

I made a beautiful (if I say so myself) Christmas Wreath at Christmas, using materials from the reserve.

I've never been to a Forest School session but I'd guess it's basically that with (some) attempt to make it for adults. It's run by a Forest School leader. Funds go to the Widlife Trust.

Sounds bloody fantastic

Oh that sounds great. I'm a member of a swimming related club which is effectively a load of middle aged women messing about and showing off in the pool. The lifeguards, which are mostly young adults and 80% male, must think we're insane, but I secretly hope they think we're really cool too.
