Bets on please how many colds will I get this year, children are in R and Y1

Oh Lordy, reception and year 1?! My guess would be around 5000. Godspeed 🤣

Cotopaxi · 16/09/2026 11:57

How many colds?

One. A very long one that lasts until about the middle of next July. Soz. 😁

Swissmeringue · 16/09/2026 12:36

It's just one long cold, as soon as the runny nose and headache finally dry up the sore throat starts again. Thoughts and prayers.

Is there a loyalty scheme on coffee at the soft play at least?

I remember when they started nursery at 2ish and everyone said oh don't worry give a couple of months and their immune systems will catch up.

Biggest parenting lie out there! 😂

We're a fortnight in (reception, y4) and have had nothing so far. But the kid we had over for a playdate on Monday was off with gastro yesterday so I'm looking forward to fun times ahead.

I hate when people say this! My eldest is 10 and still plagued with constant illnesses!

HairsprayBabe · 16/09/2026 12:44

@Swissmeringue Three separate soft plays sadly, else my stamp card would be full! Perhaps soft play should start selling preventative lemsips

For any pedants ((yes I know that's not how Lemsip work))

Don't worry, the vomiting and diarrhea will take your mind off the cold.

newrubylane · 16/09/2026 12:56

One of mina managed to pick something up a couple of days before we went back to school. So I am that parent who the rest of the school is now cursing. You'll be pleased to know I also caught ie

To be fair, this was more common pre-covid. There is a push to send children in with all sorts of things that other countries don’t allow. Some viruses such as covid make you more susceptible to other illnesses. It’s one of the reasons teacher absence has rocketed in recent years - they’re humans too! Sorry, feeling pissed off that the rounds of illness are starting again here! Yes schools and nurseries have always been viral soups, but there’s been a tendency in recent years to make that soup more potent!

@FeliciaFancybottom please no 😭

Literally just had a nap - hope this is just a cute cold and not Proper Sick™
