How do you get over it ? I was mugged near the car (they’d watched me at the car & followed me) I’m so embarrassed I didn’t even try and stop them and so pissed off I keep remembering things that are now gone. A picture taken by my dad who died in 2003 we were going to get framed, my ninja chill pill fan (sobs), dads key ring on my house key, mums house key (thank Christ nothing in the car had our address on it), my wedding shoes, a really cool umbrella etc.

the worst thing though is we decided because money was tight last year to not plump for the courtesy car cover. So now we’re in this weird limbo where the insurance company won’t do anything to really help until the car has been missing for 2 weeks so we’ve had to pay for a rental car out of pocket initially for 2 weeks and who knows how long after that ?

If you do nothing after reading this please please take out courtesy car cover, it really would have solved so much stress for us.

Fucking knobs (thieves not the insurance that’s on us)

How awful for you! Is it likely to be abandoned? If so, hopefully it will turn up at some point with your belongings still in it.

My car was stolen and I didn't even notice! It was an old banger, needed some work doing so was parked on street outside house. I'd just had a baby and we went shopping in partners car, came back, pulled into space where mine was and still didn't notice 😂 as you can tell, it didn't affect me that much. Reported it and it was found abandoned. The police were really good, had forensic officers going all through everything in it. It went for scrap, but fingers crossed yours turns up so you can at least retrieve your sentimental items.

My DH had hiis car stollen and as above it was found abandoned with all the inside seats torn out and had to go to scrap. My DH was really upset about it! So I would say your feelings are totally valid.

It’s the inconvenience of it all - the fact that some strangers don’t give a fuck about your life and are so selfish.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear Op...it is a really vialating feeling.
Mine was stolen and stunk of alchol...smashed into a big advert sign with metal posts.
It was my first car, I loved it.
I was so upset about the fact it had take me ages to aquire my wee car to be treated like that by some scum.
It had a booster seat in the car..
The worst part is getting the car back and seeing what they do to them.
I walked everywhere since I worked not to far, it was found within days, towed and I now can not handle the smell of a certain alchol.
Thieving barstards.

Lets hope your sentimental items are left in the car.

Sorry you had such a scary experience
Cut yourself some slack most would be to scared to try and stop that with good reason.
As per pp hope you get those items back.

I had the same car stolen twice! This was around 30 years ago when it was easier to steal cars.
One was near Christmas when I had gone to Newcastle Metro Centre for Christmas shopping. Stayed overnight at a Travelodge and came out next morning to find the car gone!
Luckily I had taken all my shopping in with me. I did get the car back.

A couple of years after that I was parked in Glasgow and the car was stolen again. Again I eventually got the car back. But that was enough for me. I sold the car and bought another one as I felt it was jinxed!

I am really sorry it has happened to you, especially as you had sentimental things in it. I hope you manage to at least get them back. It's a really horrible experience going through this.

We were burgled and they stole my car, luckily there was nothing but a car seat in the car, they trashed our home but didn’t steal anything else. It had a tracker so I could see where it was for a while, they obviously quickly managed to either remove or disable it.

Just before it was stolen I had spent just over £1,000 on bodywork repairs, so that was painful.

It was found, and actually they hadn’t damaged it, but by that point my insurance had paid out and I had a new car.
