Is this worth reporting to the police?

Had an online order (clothes) delivered today, except it was delivered to a another address round the corner, similar street names.

So my DD went round to get it and the man said he didnt have it, he'd given it back to the delivery driver, even though I have a photo of him at the door, the location photo and an email saying it was delivered!

This has happened before, parcel gets delivered to him, he denys all knowledge, so far I reckon hes had about £400 worth of stuff and im sick of it. The companies always replace/refund but that's not the point!

Is it worth reporting? Would they speak to him? obviously i can't prove the previous times but if they spoke to him it might make him think again!

It doesn't appear to be worth reporting anything to the police these days. Even if they investigate, no charges will be brought. You've lost your stuff I'm afraid.

Make sure the companies know your address by adding detail e.g. Elm Road not Elm Street and my house has a red door.

Depends where you are I think. General rule around here is police will only investigate for over £500 theft. But given it’s over a period of time, he has probably sold on.

Aye i know. At least it'll get replaced but its so annoying knowing that pig has my stuff and there's nothing I can do

It was "only" just over £100, but a good idea about the address. I think I'll put one of the words in capitals

So Smith PLACE instead of Smith Place

You are describing a crime - theft.
If you believe that they are taking and keeping packages then report. The police either will or will not act upon it, but at the very least there would be a record of ongoing thefts

Otherwise if you do nothing then you lose the money you spent. If you claim non delivery then the retailer has the expense of refunding you or the expense of another item plus the postage (which may end up at the same address). Or they have the admin cost and the carrier sufferers the compensation cost to the retailer
The above costs may still apply but would go on and on with no crime reported

No harm in reporting it

It might land in the lap of an officer who investigates it and nothing can happen if you don't report

I think i will report it.

I won't be out of pocket because ill either get a replacement or a refund, but as you say its costing the company money which in turn puts the prices up.

Im not really bothered if the carrier has to pay compensation, I hope they do then maybe they'll employ people who can read an address properly!

You'll probably not be surprised to know its the dreaded Evri!

As far as I know there's no point reporting anything to the police nowadays as they don't investigate property crime.

They definitely won’t investigate if there are no reports

I live in a statistically low crime area in Salisbury.
Could that be correct or could it be nobody bothers to report crime?

That’s exactly what happened to a friend many years ago.

Her son left his phone on the bus, another mother saw and handed it to the driver
It never arrived at the bus stations lost & found

One particular police officer kept the report on her list for weeks. She knew that driver was stealing, but couldn’t catch him.
As they had the original box they were able to give the officer the IMEI. It remained inactive for weeks, and as the officer kept tracking for it they were able
to identify it when it was turned back on with a new SIM, identify the new number, and verify when it was at the drivers home address - they even called it to ring in his pocket with him stood at his door

100% of unreported crimes are not investigated

If it happens again, send a large burly male friend who's built like a brick shithouse to go round and collect it.

Yeah I do also think that the "low" crime rate is partly explained by people giving up reporting, but I don't blame them. It's so dispiriting when they do nothing about it. You feel like a fool. It's hard to go through.
