Sexual cleanliness questionability

So you invite someone to be your long term house guest, a sibling, knowing their sexual history, while they get back on their feet after falling out with their father, who they were living with. But ask that they have an std test as you know they have had unprotected sex with approx 20 partners total (some unprtected) and this makes you feel uncomfortable about catching something from a shared bathroom. Is it ok after 3 weeks of them not getting tested, or showing signs of getting tested, to ask them to use a different bathroom/toilet to you and your partner?

Yabu

RosieCockle · 14/09/2026 20:56

Is this a joke?

Cornucopia55 · 14/09/2026 21:09

What exactly do you think you might catch from them in a shared bathroom? Have you read up on this? My understanding (background in health research) is that it's vanishingly unlikely. Eg essexsexualhealthservice.org.uk/can-you-catch-an-sti-from-a-towel-toilet-seat-or-hot-tub/

It does sound like you want to treat your sibling as "unclean". Encouraging them to get checked for their own benefit and health is sensible, but having put that out there, please don't keep shaming them.

grow up

SallyCinnamon38 · 14/09/2026 21:12

No this is awful. Maybe you shouldn’t have invited them to stay if this is how you feel.

ShakyBake · 14/09/2026 21:14

Not sure if I have got wrong end of stock but this house guest, it is someone you want to be your lover?

Megamegablahblah · 14/09/2026 21:15

You cannot catch an STI from sharing a bathroom. If they are using your towels or not cleaning the bathroom, that would be not okay, but don't use made up science on them.

If you have multiple toilets and bathrooms anyway do you need to share?

SethAndReubenTooSendGaloshes · 14/09/2026 21:16

You want your sibling to have an STI test before you share a bathroom with them? Yes YABU! And a weirdo

Baconisawesome · 14/09/2026 21:17

What do you think you could possibly’catch’ from sharing a bathroom?

sounds pretty unreasonable to me asking/demanding a std test.

unless I’m missing something? If so I apologise

Not many people want their sibling to be their lover

SwedishEdith · 14/09/2026 21:19

A reverse?

Whisperwaves · 14/09/2026 21:20

Unless your partner is shagging them YABU

Well it sounds as though you disapprove of your sibling’s sexual behaviour and this is your way of making a point about it.

Because you must surely know you’re not going to catch an STI from bathroom surfaces. One assumes and very much hopes you’re not going to mingle sexual fluids with your sibling.

I think having this conversation with them is a sure fire way to damage your relationship. (Although if you are concerned about their health, it’s probably not unreasonable to suggest they get tested. But not for your benefit- for theirs).

Arlanymor · 14/09/2026 21:22

If you don’t want to catch a sexually transmitted disease from them then don’t have sex with them.

PuffinIsle · 14/09/2026 21:22

You're not serious? You're an adult actually asking this ridiculous question? Why are you having them to stay when you clearly view them to be riddled with something?

Weekmindedfool · 14/09/2026 21:23

MN gets more bizarre by the day

Coco852 · 14/09/2026 21:24

Do you think that everyone in gym bathrooms/showers (& gyms have public liability) or uni halls have STI tests to be able to use them? Offices with bathrooms?

Coco852 · 14/09/2026 21:24

frecklejuice · 14/09/2026 21:27

Is this a reverse? Are you being asked to get an STD test?

PurpleLovecats · 14/09/2026 21:27

Is this a reverse? If not then you are seriously paranoid.

It's that old joke about VD and toilet seats ..., I can only remember the punchline 'Why? Were you chewing it?'

Deadleaves77 · 14/09/2026 21:39

I presume your not planning on having sex with your sibling so I think your quite safe from any STDs

LaughingCat · 14/09/2026 21:39

Oh, well, Sunday evening brings out all the odd posts. Erm…you can’t catch an STD from a loo seat or sharing a bathroom. Unless you think your sibling might want to use your toothbrush to style their pubes, maybe? 🤷‍♀️
