my uncle passed ssway today. He was sick for short time but he was very special to me. Is it acceptable to take time off for death of an uncle or is that not a close enough relationship

Of course it's acceptable. You may have to take annual leave though, depending on where you work.

Sorry for your loss

I think it’s possible to be unfit to work after bereavement of any type.

Sorry for your loss xx

if England, I would assume from experience you would get a days paid for the funeral. Anything else - AL

Depends how much time. For my Aunt I was given the day of the death off cos I was bawling at work and the day of her funeral. Same for my grandfather. I only got the funeral day for my uncle and grandmother. I got several days for my Dad. He died on a Friday, i was due to work that day and the Saturday, i took the whole weekend off and returned to work on the Monday, i had the whole week of his funeral off. Every work place is different.

Every workplace is different, both in the rules that are there, and the amount of discretion any Manager has, but usually most workplaces only offer one day, and that is for the funeral. Many work places don't give bereavement leave other than for partner, sibling, parent, grandparent or child, so an uncle's funeral would also have to be AL.
