Predicted grades on Post-16 application form

My DD has just started year 11 so she will be applying for college/sixth form soon. She knows what she wants to apply for, so she is keen to send off the application in the next few months. We live in an area where there are many provisions and her school advised that pupils should apply before Christmas because it is competitive and some providers get full up and stop taking applications.

School gave all pupils in her year GCSE predicted grade at the end of year 10 based on mock exams. They are due to do some more mock exams just before Christmas.

My question is, should she wait until the next round of mock exams are done in order to try and get a better predicted grade? Or stick with these current predicted grades?

Obviously I am going to ask the school for advice on this, but in the meantime, I wanted to ask if other people have been in this situation. Also i’m wondering whether pupils are responsible for putting their predicted grades themselves on the application form for college? Surely they could then put whatever grade they like! Or do the schools fill in that part of the application form for them?

TIA
