Any single parent educational psychologists?

I am hoping to become an educational psychologist.

I have all the required qualifications and experience etc and have wanted to apply for a few years but I couldn’t due to being a single parent and likely needing to stay overnight sometimes.

However, I am now able to apply but my DC will likely be at college and then (a different) university at the same time.

How did you manage on the £15k bursary?

If my DC was younger, I would get extra help with UC but obviously I wouldn’t once they’re at uni.
I cannot relocate and can live cheaply but my main bills will still need paying and most will still remain the same eg rent, broadband, car insurance etc as they’re fixed bills.

Any tips or advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Watching this as I have applied a couple of times but now have young children and am significantly older- early 40s. Wondering how I might manage a 1.5 hr commute with littles for three years. It’s an inaccessible training route but Iv geared my whole career towards it. I should have done it before having my children but couldn’t get a place despite loads of experience. I don’t want to commit to the assistants post that I could pick up at work if I am not going to go the whole way to the doctoral training.

Hopefully we’ll get some answers from people who have done the course soon.

I have never applied as my nearest uni that offers it is quite far away and my DC was too young but there’s no guarantee that I will get in as I know how competitive they are.

I know many universities offer the placements closer to home but if you’re like me, there’s going to be multiple people wanting the placements that are closer to home and so the placements aren’t guaranteed either.

I know you’re not allowed to work alongside it and so I’m wondering how I’m going to cope on £15k a year when I’ll be having to do so much travelling and potentially staying overnight on top of my regular bills.

They say they’re desperate for more of them because there’s a massive shortage but don’t make it easier for parents to actually do the course.
