Would you want full donor information or just the basics for IVF?

If you were doing an IVF cycle with donor eggs would you want to know as much as possible about a donor or the minimum?

We can be told blood type, hair colour and eye colour height and weight with an option to also know education level and what was studied plus interests and hobbies.

Dh wants to know everything I want to just know the absolute basics. I want my potential child to just grow up to be who they are rather than if we know more to subconsciously be assuming anything expecting things or steering them to paths based on the donor. Eg if the donor has a maths degree to assume they’ll be good at maths or if the donor plays a particular instrument to then get them into that ,

I want them to be their own person if that makes sense?

Know everything. You wont be able to access info later on down the line. You could always have it but not read it.

I’m so unsure. I’m not sure I ever want to know I feel like I want it to be unknown and not influence them/us. Dh just likes to know everything 😂

Someone I know donated eggs in her early 20s and has recently been diagnosed with ASD and ADHD along with asthma and thyroid disease. You can never have all the information.

I have a sperm donor conceived son so a little different but not hugely.

I wanted to know as much as I could, so we went with someone who had a whole profile including a childhood photo, interests, family info etc.

It still didn't seem a huge amount but it was enough to get a reasonable enough picture.

I wanted to feel OK with the information I could give my child in the future, and that I would be able to show him something rather than just say we know nothing. Also to be able to say, we chose this donor for XYZ reason.

Your child might be interested to learn that they have some traits of the donor, also. It will be part of their identity, so it will be good from their perspective to know something. It is healthy to try and accept this and encourage/ celebrate it, even though it can be hard.

Now that I have my son I am still really happy with this decision and tbh I don't find myself really thinking about the donor or what attributes might come from him or me. It just doesn't really seem to matter now.

Your child will still be their own person once they are here, whichever way you decide.

You do know that donors are no longer annomyous and your child can make contact @ 18. Never mind at home genetic testing

Our donor is anonymous as we are having treatment abroad but we are still planning to tell any child born as a result of ivf that they are donor conceived

Do research the at home DNA stuff it is very unlikely that annonimity will be maintained long term

We will be telling any child born as a result of treatment about their origins from as early as possible. If they somehow find them one day via dna testing then that’s up to them it won’t be a secret so not a problem. Tbh I’d rather have had treatment here but it was too expensive the move to treatment abroad was purely financial
