Dry robes or not

Just wondering. Seen a lovely dry robe kind of coat online. Would be great for dog walking, school runs and my sons football matches. Are these sort of coats acceptable autumn/winter wear?

They were last year but I wonder if they will look a bit old this year. Before everyone comes after me, wear what you want etc! But I’m wondering whether I’ll feel good in last years one or not.

IMHO they never looked good. Son uses for rowing - nowhere else. Why do people wear them in town?

I think they were seen as ridiculous when they first came out but become more mainstream as people continued to wear them, especially in practical situations like walking a dog.

I dont have a dry robe but I'm a fan of warmth & comfort over what any other bugger thinks.

Octavia64 · 12/09/2026 18:16

I dunno if they are fashionable but they are warm and that’s what I care about

KidsAndDogsGalore · 12/09/2026 18:17

Equidry is better quality and has some practical features.

I’ve bought the sea salt Janelle instead.

Anything that covers your arse will keep you warm so its no different to a long parker, just bulkier. They are still common for dog walkers, ive seen a few in the last week in scotland as the rain starts to set in.

They're never going to look stylish because they have no shape to them but if it keeps you warm and dry, who cares!

You might get extra use of it in summer if you go to the beach.

SEmumma · 12/09/2026 20:11

Personally think they look utterly ridiculous - still I got one off Vinted and wear it when it’s raining and I’m on the school run. Happy to look ridiculous but be dry and warm 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

Bjorkdidit · 12/09/2026 20:14

Why wouldn't you just buy a normal coat if you don't swim or do outside water sports.

IcyShark · 12/09/2026 21:21

Ive got coats. Long ones and short ones etc. I was looking for something practical to drop kids off at school, then straight out with the dog and to my son's football tournaments. Im not buying an actual dry robe I find them over priced. Plenty of alternatives out there. As long as im comfy, warm and dry.

I don’t understand how a dryrobe is any more convenient than any other kind of coat for that? Nit meaning to be obtuse, genuinely, isn’t it just a long, waterproof coat? That’s what my Janelle is, but I just think it looks a bit nicer, nips in at the waist.

IcyShark · 12/09/2026 21:42

Nips in at the waist. I'll look into that one thanks

At first I disliked them but they are growing on me. I imagine they are something you'd have to feel confident about wearing in public.
