Anyone else happy alone

We were discussing being lonely after one older ladies divorce later in life, another bereaved and a thirty something alone after a breakup.
I live with dh and it hasn't been without many issues due to being completely opposite people.
I love doing stuff alone and he isn't there for emotional stuff anyway.
The other ladies fill their time with activity and meet up with friends.
Am I the only one who loves being alone after a long day at work.?

I have considered being alone so has he briefly.
I think I'm unconventional in that I'm not a party going sociable person and I love working.

No, you are not. Many people hate parties and love working, even if they are NT.

I meant in comparison to the people I know.

I live alone and have done for over 40 years. Yes that's correct. I love it so much that my partner and I (over 30 years now) agreed not to live together. He lives in his house, and I live in mine, no kids either side though, so that helps!

I have to say it is the recipe for a very fulfilling and happy relationship. We obviously care lots about each other or we wouldn't still be an "item", so we were both lucky to be kindred spirits in the living alone department anyway!

Obviously we spend time together, but the bliss of going back to my lovely little home, all neat and tidy where I can flop around with no one to direct my operations is something I would find very difficult to surrender!

I also reckon that a good number of people who post on MN are happy in their own company and prefer talking to strangers anonymously without having to have a "guest ready" house and a groaning fridge ready for "friends", of whom I have a few BTW, but I still prefer to be alone most of the time.

I live alone and have done for ten years since last DC moved out. Absolutely love it and now could not bear having anyone else hanging around wanting my attention. The dog is bad enough.

The only downside is covering all the bills singlehanded.

This is a very interesting question. I lived alone from when I moved out of the parental home when I was 17, to 46 when I moved in with my wife. She died last year, so now I am back to being alone, after 9 years of not.

So, in some ways, it is back to normal as I lived alone longer than I lived with her. I am not lonely, I am blessed with good friends, so plenty of social time should I want it. That said, I obviously miss her desperately. But that doesn't mean I miss having someone, it means I miss her, and her only. Also, I am in the house we bought together, in an area I have only ever lived in with her, so it is weird while I get used to my new normal.

I can't imagine ever living with anyone again. It is interesting how living with my wife changed me in subtle ways. I never go to bed without loading the dishwasher and switching it on, that sort of thing. Stuff that was important to her has become ingrained, which I find soothing.

I’ve lived alone since i was 21, am 47 now. Wouldn’t change it for the world. There are some weekends when i don’t see anyone from when I get home Fri until i go to work on Monday morning and I love those weekends. I can honestly say I’m never lonely. I have a good circle of friends and i am quite sociable at times, but my preference is for solitude.

I’m mid-50s, have lived alone since I was 30 (house shares before that). I love it, nothing better than waking up, the cat comes over for a pet, make a coffee, back to bed, and blissful silence. Also like to have the evenings of reading, scrolling, TV, not having to deal with anyone else. I see people for work or socially about once a week.

Downsides of living alone: bills aren’t shared, you have to always be the one in to deal with packages arriving and tradesmen. When you are ill it can be difficult to keep the house clean, get shopping etc. Sharing the load on practical and stressful issues - I’m currently moving house and I would REALLY have loved to have someone to share the stress of that with. That’s it really, though as I get older I guess these issues will become more and more of a problem, so trying to make sure I have money to outsource things.

I work full-time I'm neurodivergent.
That's enough people time for me

I'm exactly the same.

I am noticing it a bit more now that DD has a serious boyfriend (she's away at uni anyway but messages a lot less), but my social circle is very small and I feel like I've drifted from a couple of friends for various reasons over the last couple of years.

I could do with a bit more of a social life but I'm really bad at sticking to plans (hence one of the friendship drifts) and am about to change job so will stick with crafting, cats, books and box sets for now!

Wrydhag that sounds blissful.
I'm thoroughly enjoying the novel experience of being alone for a week.
Impossible to know if I could enjoy it permanently.Good to know it's possible though.
