What do you and your partner do in the evenings?

We've been married a very long time, have no children or pets at home, so just the two of us. My husband is retired, and I work three days a week, and will retire in March next year.

We are pretty healthy, and fairly fit, given our ages (mid-late 60s)

We get along ok, and love each other, but I feel we have just fallen into bad habits in the evenings.

My husband spends a LOT of time on his computer - playing games and watching YouTube. At least 5 hours a day, both daytime and into the evenings.

I do 99% of the cooking, and aim for us to eat at about 6 - 6.30pm

After that, he's on the computer (which sits in the corner of the room, so he has his back to me, and headphones on, so can't chat, etc)

I tend to read, doomscroll my phone, or have the TV on in the background. I do watch Coronation Street, which is 8.30 - 9pm, but would happily catch up on it later.

We don't go out in the evenings, and really only go for walks together, on the days I'm not working.

I feel we should be doing something more constructive, and wonder what other couples do with their evenings.

We both work full time which is completely different. But we swim, cook, clean watch TV and go to bed at 9 to get up at 5.45 to walk the dog and do it all over again.

We don't watch regular tv but we usually have a few series to stream. Will watch a few episodes at a time. Atm watching Grimm and Bones. My husband likes to play on his laptop. I surf Mumsnet, facebook or play games on my phone. In the summer we might go for a drive, but I don't like going out in the dark except to choir on Monday evenings.

We both still work and have 1 teen at home (mainly doing her own thing) so it’s not the same as your situation. I guess having a dog gives us an easy way of spending time together. So if we have both been very busy, we enjoy an evening walk with the dog which gives us time to chat. Sometimes we’ll stop at a pub for a drink. We both have hobbies that take us out of the house 2 or 3 times a week, and dh does work a lot of hours, also on evenings during busy periods. We try to go to a pub quiz monthly, or have dinner or drinks with friends. We also enjoy netflix series, but dh watches more tv than I do, so he normally has something on the go with teen, and something else with me.
We both like to be busy, either with other people or with each other so our weeks are quite full and varied.

Watch films or tv. I watch a lot of football so he will do a bit of gaming and I’ll do a bit of gaming when I can’t be bothered to watch anything. We do the gym in the mornings on my days off and if we go out for dinner and drinks it’s always during the day

I’m late 39s and DH is 40s. We both have separate sports we do so 1-2 nights a week we do our own thing. We may also socialise with separate friends 1-2 nights a week. The other nights we would usually either go to the gym together, a run or take kayaks out. Sometimes in the winter a swim. Sometimes walk the dog and go for a pint. Then cook dinner, eat together, wash up and either read or watch an episode of a show. But screen time is likely to be an hour to watch an episode of a show, max two hours.

Watch TV together. Films at the weekend Luckily we are interested in the same sort of programs and films. I couldn't put up with someone in the same room playing on a computer ignoring me.

I play bridge at least one evening a week, but usually 2 and occasional 3.

He often has a meal out with friends one evening a week.
He potters in the garage for hours, he is a mechanic and has various projects on the go.

If we are both home we might watch some TV together, or he'll watch ridiculous YouTube videos of lathes and I'll read.

Well everything changed 6 months ago when DH suddenly declared he wanted to 'get into Sumo' after watching it when London hosted.
He has never shown any interest before and is the most English looking skinny man you can imagine. Since then he has been on an extreme diet and doubled in size. Everything came to ahead Monday before last, he had a 'bout' which was his first outside training and his opponent (who is 3 times his size, despite the weight gain) landed on top of him and broke 4 ribs. My evenings are now spent visiting him in hospital and I'm absolutely fed up

Married 36 years, he's still working full time (very long hours as HGV driver) I'm carer to our ds2 and also look after the grandkids, plus a very part time job.
Evenings are a bit hit and miss as he has to go to bed early and I'm a night owl, so it;s dinner , sort laundry together, both doom scroll a bit. We watch a little tv together but neither like tv much. I play squash a few evenings a week, he kayaks at the weekend. I have an allotment and we sometimes work on it together. Boring but content!

We have dinner then retire to the living room. He spends 40 minutes finding something to watch. Watches it for 30 seconds and falls asleep. I have learned not to sit too close as he does a nodding dog impression and has accidentally head butted me. After an hour or 2 or 3 or 4 he wakes up and says my god is that the time.
