Has anyone been to Westminster Abbey?

I have a couple of hours to myself next Saturday. I thought about visiting the Abbey. It’s £32 though! It’s not unaffordable but it just seems a lot to visit a church. I wondered about visiting for a service instead but don’t suppose you can wander around after that. I like history but I am not interested in items such as a spoon that belonged to someone’s next door neighbours nanny and was used by a dead king type thing. I like and can appreciate the architecture. Is it definitely worth it?

Yes. The garden in the Small Cloister is one of the unknown beauties of London. The amount of stuff to see is amazing and the place is beautiful. Only St Paul's can compare with it.

I'd pay quite happily.

Yes, it's incredible and beautiful.

It’s not a museum and I have no memory or there being exhibits (like spoons!) to look at. Lots of history and graves of interesting people. Very beautiful. The money is helping preserve it.

Thank you. This is helpful. I’ll look at booking a ticket.

I’m the same OP! I’d like to go but realistically I’d probably only spend 30 minutes there just looking around and admiring the architecture so the ticket price seems a lot.

Thanks. I am pondering a service visit in St Paul’s on Sunday morning, just to see the dome before my train home.

If you go to a service you don’t get to look round. It probably is worth the entry fee.

IMO (as someone who’s done ‘London Cultural stuff’ to death for DS) this was one of the only £££ London activities that was actually worth it. I spent the whole time in awe - and that’s as someone who’s done dozens of churchy/abbey/cathedral visits over the years and has never really liked any of them!
