When did your kids start playing in their rooms more?

Out of interest. Or maybe this just doesn’t happen until they are teens?

My six year old will happily play in his room, my nine year old still loves parental input. I think it’s probably different for every child.

It was something i taught them to do. I played with them in their rooms a lot from toddler age and slowly backed off.

Just my two teenagers who stay in their rooms....the other two 11 and 9 want to stay downstairs and don't really play with toys. Gadgets and TV. They have loads of toys but choose not to play with them.

when starting primary school perhaps

My eldest who is 19yo says it's sad watching his two youngest siblings as when he was their age he was playing with Lego and stuff. They just want to play on gadgets. Or go outside.

Mine is 6 and independent play has always been something we’ve struggled with, I’d say in the last year it’s got steadily better though, she can spend some part of each day keeping busy either in the garden or downstairs rooms - specifically her bedroom she’s started to choose to go in there to play occasionally but it’s still not that often.

My eldest started spending time in his room from age 15. DS2 from 13. Neither of them played in their rooms - they always wanted to be downstairs with me.

Not until the pre teen / teenage years. Before then they wanted to be downstairs near me.
