Is it a new thing to say K G for kg?

I’m 46. When I read 5kg, my brain goes ‘5 kilos’. But everyone seems to say ‘K G’ now instead. I’m sure we never said this at school. Is it just me or is this a new thing in the last 5 years or so?

I’ve always said KG in the same way I say K for kilometres. 10k run, etc is pretty standard.

I’d normally say kilograms (prob kill-low-grams) but it wouldn’t surprise me to hear kilos (pronounced kee-lows) in the context of buying something by weight. No idea why the pronunciation of the first syllable changes.

ive heard people say KG (“kay- gee”) but it doesn’t feel right - almost like the person doesn’t know what the letters stand for.

I’ve never heard the use of kilo meaning kilometers

Agree that K would feel normal for running distances. Not for other distances, but that’s probably because my brain works in miles
