Amateur baker. Making old school cake for birthday party.

Cake almost ready in oven and have just realised I forgot to use parchment paper, didn't grease tin or anything.

Can I save it?

Thank youuuuuu!

Don't try to remove it from the tin when warm, let it cool fully first if you must remove it, but it would probably be safest to ice it in the tin, and serve straight from the tin.

Thank you so much. I hadn't thought of icing and serving in tin.
Then would I just slice it for serving and use spatula to get it off? Terrified of breaking it.

You would need to let it cool for a bit, and then release the sides with a knife. Then, you could turn in upside down on a plate and hope that gravity will eventually drop the cake out, There are various suggestions online for how to help the bottom release eg applying a hot damp tea towel to the bottom for a few minutes before flipping over.

Otherwise, if it won't come out, you could think about cutting it into sections and changing how you decorate or serve it.

Thank you, I am making two individual sponges as not confident enough to do 2 tier cake. So may do a test run on one of them. Worst case scenario it'll be down to m n s!

Success! As advised I let it cool, knife round edge, damp tea towel around tin for 5 mins and tipped gently onto plate. For anyone who panics and reads this in future - you can do it!
